My employer requires me to get it as well. I've never noticed a difference, and I wouldn't get it if I wasn't forced to. Very few people in the health care industry actually support flu shots.

The other problem is you're actually most contagious right when you're starting to feel the onset of symptoms from being sick. So even though you're looking all gross and sniveling wearing a mask would have been more effective if you started a week prior.

Sure the flu is a minor thing
Not for me, influenza (not a common cold) is a serious struggle every time I get it because of my heart condition, thats why i get the shot.
Don't mistake influenza and the common cold. The common cold is with flowing and plugged noses, influenza is with bone pain, considerable fever and getting in a haze. People die of the flu, usually the ealderly but when its an especially virulent strain, especially healthy young people, because then it makes your immune system attack you and the stronger the immune system, the more sick you get.
Don't visit hospitals, the elderly and the ill when you got flu, seriously, you could kill them.

It seems like you are using anecdote rather than statistical data to come to a conclusion. People who get the flu shot are NOT more likely to get the flu, no matter how often the fear mongers recite the claim.
just curious where you think the statistical data comes from and how accurate it is? everyone i know who got the flu shot, and then got the flu
A. Didn't go report it somewhere B. Never got the flu shot again, aka lowering the future statistics.
A + B = Your statistical data means shit.

Regardless, you're right about that 'obligation'
Tho why do they give people with cancer treatments that kill/attack/degrade healthy cells amd tissue as well? I.e. chemo/radiation?

Naww thats not how the immune system works, you get vaccinated, you are strenghtened.
Efficacy of the vaccine is tested every year. I doubt they'd forge those numbers.

Yes you can get serious complicatoions from any vaccination, but the amount of hype that is being whipped up against vaccines via the internet would be ridiculous if it weren't dangerous.
I hear the claim that vaccines make you more likely to get the flu. Is there any solid science based evidence for that?

Statistically more people get the Flu from the Flu shot than if they never got one. Why? Your putting the Flu inside of you.

Its influenza virus cut to pieces, so that it can't (or at leastr shouldnt) lead to a runaway replication. The point of that is that your immune system picks up on the receptors on the virus bits and creates antibodies against those receptor combinations.
If a flu of the same strain enters your body a few weeks or months later, if meets a standing army of specidfic antibodies, as opposed to indirect opposition.

Yea its inactive flu from eggs.
I've heard stories from friends and family that they got fucking super sick right after getting the shot. The only time me and my family ever got the flu was when we got the shot all of us. All of us were terribly I'll. Never had it since, actually I got the stomach flu once because my lil sister got it and spread it through our family. I was the only one who wasn't pukin because I ate ginger and drank Olive Leaf tea which kills viruses like a motherfucker.
Yea well what if they forget to cut 1 piece of the flu

Remember that the common cold and "stomach flu" are not influenza.
Influenza is more serious.
Quote:
Common signs and symptoms of the flu include:
Fever over 100 F (38 C) Aching muscles, especially in your back, arms and legs Chills and sweats Headache Dry, persistent cough Fatigue and weakness Nasal congestion Sore throat
As a rule of thumb, if you don't have a fever, you don't have the flu.

That is a lie spread by fear mongers and idiots.

Can a flu shot give you the flu?
No, a flu shot cannot cause flu illness. Flu vaccines that are administered with a needle are currently made in two ways: the vaccine is made either with a) flu vaccine viruses that have been 'inactivated' and are therefore not infectious, or b) with no flu vaccine viruses at all (which is the case for recombinant influenza vaccine). The most common side effects from the influenza shot are soreness, redness, tenderness or swelling where the shot was given. Low-grade fever, headache and muscle aches also may occur.
In randomized, blinded studies, where some people get inactivated flu shots and others get salt-water shots, the only differences in symptoms was increased soreness in the arm and redness at the injection site among people who got the flu shot. There were no differences in terms of body aches, fever, cough, runny nose or sore throat.
Carolyn Bridges et al. (2000). Effectiveness and cost-benefit of influenza vaccination of healthy working adults: A randomized controlled trial. Kristin Nichol et al. (1995). The effectiveness of vaccination against influenza in healthy working adults. New England Journal of Medicine. 333(14): 889-893.
Even the notion that you get flu like symptoms from a flu shot is not supported by data.

The flu vaccine does not cause the flu. The viruses within have been killed. Nasal vaccines do have some live ones in it though. What it does is give the body an opportunity to build antibodies for the strains in the vaccine. Some people do get symptoms for a couple days, but that's not an actual infection. Sometimes they don't use the proper strains. Last year for example. This year they got it right.
I always get a flu shot. It's mandatory. I work in a hospital, and we take infection control seriously. Someone earlier in this thread said that every hospital they worked at forced people to come to work while sick. That's a terrible policy, and goes against the norm. We're not allowed to come to work while sick, as we shouldn't be. Infection control is extremely important. Unfortunately not all institutions take it as seriously as we do.
