Not a myth at all bro. The reasons babies die from the flu is because their immune systems don't have the equipped antibodies. The occurrence of the shingles from chickenpox is from a weak immune system. That is also why I said "is kind of like"..

you're comparing babies with no immune systems to adults that do have them.

And it is a myth. getting chickenpox DOES NOT prevent you from getting Shingles. 'shingles' is essentially a 'flare up' of chicken pox.

Ask literally anyone who has had shingles, they will invariably tell you that they had already had chickpox in the past

Idk if I'm wrong but it doesn't look like gorlax is saying chicken pox prevents shingles.

I was forced to get mine because of school so yeah I got it. Never having the flu isn't really healthy. Kind of like never having the chicken pox isn't healthy either. If you randomly get it later on in life it could be devastating to your immune system to not have the anitbodies locked into attack mode.

It didn't take three months for his uncles brain to disappear after getting the shot.

Too soon.

Yeah I never even mentioned in my original post anything about shingles. I said not having chickenpox early on wasn't healthy. Having it later on in life is not healthy that isn't an opinion.

I'm not some huge advocate for flu shots if you are healthy. Fuck I've only gotten them because I have to do clinical rotations coming up and I can't risk a persons life because I didn't want to be vaccinated. I also had to get them for all my prior college shit. That is why almost all healthcare professionals are required. I also believe if you have small children or take care of someone elderly you should get vaccinated as well. There's no point not to unless as a previous member has mentioned they have an autoimmune disease.

The flu isn't even bad. I caught paratyphoid B from that sushi tuna outbreak early this year and thought I was fucking going to DIE. Sick 4 weeks straight with basically typhoid fever.

Babies can get antibodies from their mothers breast milk too, and that can start them off with a healthy immune system.

I agree that chicken pox if contracted in adulthood would be worse, I also agree that people who have had chicken pox when little who also later contracted shingles as adults is also terrible.. there are I some things I think we need to be vaccinated for when we are younger and this is one of them.

The others would include your standard measles, mumps etc.  Those would not be pleasant to have floating around our communities.

Other vaccines though like the flu, or even HPV I don't agree with simply because they aren't well tested enough yet.  Big pharma just wants to stick us with anything to make some cash, and they're in such a hurry they won't test the new shit to make sure it's safe..  But they sure push it on us pretty hard.

:nojustno:

Since when does anyone in this healthcare system give a fuck about 'preventitive medicine'?

I'll keep my immune system up with medicinal teas including Turkey Tail mushrooms and pine needles amongst other things.

They put like 3 strains out of like 20+ potential strains in the shot with all the other goodies the cdc on their own site that are in there, including but not limited to, formeldahye, mercury containing compounds and MSG.

I'll take my chances along with my earth meds.

that's pure ignorance. You wouldn't be using pine needles to prevent polio. Sure the flu is a minor thing but people in the healthcare system have an obligation to not get critically sick people "more sick"...

The reason most people don't get the flu is because other people in our society got the shot. This is the main principle of herd immunity. People love to say how unnecessary the flu shot is, but this is largely in part that 46% of Americans get it every year and build up the herd immunity for those who don't get it.

I don't. I'd rather take the 5 percent chance I actually have of getting sick than pump some bs in my body. And if I do get sick I'm over it in 48 hours max. I see no reason for me to get one

so they(people who get flu vax) are essentially sacrificial lambs? because it seems like those who get the flu shot are more likely to get the flu

It seems like you are using anecdote rather than statistical data to come to a conclusion.  People who get the flu shot are NOT more likely to get the flu, no matter how often the fear mongers recite the claim.

out of curiosity DieCommie, do you think everyone should get flu shot, or only certain  susceptible people?

I think everyone should consult with a professional and make the decision based on data rather than fear and anecdote.

Could get a flu shot.  Or I could wear a mask at work.  Or quit.  So many choices.  I think I'm going with getting a shot.
