What are your thoughs on "praying"
    #22413874 - 10/21/15 02:06 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

I always thought it was silly as a kid as I only understood organized religions concept of god mainly.

However I still would "pray" somewhat as a kid by basically thanking and requesting things from the universe.

As I got older I started understanding better concepts of "god" and the universe and have been regularly "praying" to mother nature and the universe to give thanks for existence and ask for the strength and guidance to accomplish whatever I may be here to do. Also I like to ask the same but for humanity and life in general

I have always known it is a bit ridiculous but at the very least I enjoy putting the positive thoughts out there even if I am the only one who hears them. I have found especially if I am feeling down instead of hating everything if I look at the positives and give thanks things tend to get better much quicker.

I have come to realize many issues in the world come from people hating themselves and or others and dwelling in negativity. If more people just gave thanks for the little things like being alive and having such a wonderful amazing planet regardless of how much we have trashed it the world would be a much better place.

Thoughts?

You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by

I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me

I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

Yeah I was going to say it is an important part of manifestation too but it totally is the more contemplative part.

preying is letting things go, opening your mind to possibilities. that's manifesting too.

Praying is great. Every endeavor should begin by asking for the blessing of our creator on it. Furthermore it is calming to the mind and helps you to think more clearly when you are distraught. Perhaps the most important part of prayer is to spend time in a meditative and contemplative state, and to listen when you ask for guidance.

Its especially important when you need to stand up for what's right and just when its easier to go along with what is corrupt. We can draw strength from our faith, to do what is right and good.

Yeah but its more finding what you want to manifest and giving thanks as apposed to actually working on making things happen. That why I said it is the more contemplative side of manifesting, it is still a part of the process of course. Though you could manifest something without praying and or doing much contemplation as well.

Well said Ellis, it definitely is very calming like meditation. I need to start meditating more...

I pray often. Sometimes that includes smoking tobacco in the prayer.

Prayer techniques are a wonderful way to communicate beyond the earthly and to induce trances.

I think it depends.. there are some people that put out their energy to the universe to hope things manifest in their favor and I get that but then there's others who pray but don't do anything in their lives to help themselves and I can't agree with that.  I think prayer is nice to let go of some stress and feel like you have some backup power in your life, but I also personally just use it when I feel like things are literally out of my control now and there's nothing I can do.. otherwise I think you have to have some personal responsibility for your life.

You can do both though.

How many aren't responsible and don't pray? Probably way more then people who pray and aren't responsible

I get what your saying but its more of a flaw in people in general than an effect from people praying to higher powers.

I was doing this semi daily for a bit but just smudging the tobacco and really enjoyed it. I should start doing that again.

That sounds like a saying some grouchy old pessimistic asshat would say :tongue2:

Asante, can't say I have ever prayed into a trance but meditation sure can get me there!

My thoughts are that praying is a waste of time. No magical man of the clouds is going to answer your prayers. You're better off using that time for something productive that may help you reach whatever you are praying for.

I pray to my mind/existence and nature and fellow man. I've accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my savior and blessed be the holy trinity. Other parts of my prayers focus on my body and how to improve my threshold for pain. Sometimes I'll just commune and go dark. There's nothing wrong praying for the strength or health of loved ones. There's some kind of vibe out there and I don't think it matters how you manifest it. But that's just my two cents.

Praying in the sense of concentrating on gratitude can be a very valuable tool to help you reach a positive and healthy mindset.

If you train this, and do it often enough, you can become grateful for just this experience in itself.

In a sense it then becomes self-referential, and independent of specific circumstances. Gratitude for gratitude. Loving love.

This, I believe, is one of the more accessible faces of god, even if you consider god as just an abstract concept.

You can draw energy from this, and hope, and mental strength. Isn't that what real believers say their god gives them?

If it works for them, why shouldn't it work for me?...

Love, Hanz.

I think praying is for people who want to give up responsibility over their own life and outcomes to someone else cause they're too weak willed to deal with the randomness of the world and their own life.

Ehh... Majority of people who pray still take responsibility for their own life and others, they just choose to pray when they feel weak or feel something is out of their control. Just because someone prays it doesn't mean they are weak. I don't completely disagree with you, there definitely are people that do feel like prayers will solve all their problems

It's easy to spot someone that attends AA frequently because eventually they all sound the same.

My cousin can't finish a status on FB without saying "I turn my will over", "turned my will over to God", "it's tough but everyday I do His will"...

I'm guessing this is another one of the 100s of cliche sayings that AA people repeat over and over at the cult meetings?
