enrygy canot exist without mass and energy is almost like a exited state of mass alowing it to interact. you can only measure how much energy somthing has by measureing its transactions with other mass. soit seams that energy is more of a propity of mass than a comodity.

sweet we are getting into thermal now :smile:

I'll define a couple of things here

thermal energy: "it is the internal energy that consists of the kinetic and potential energies associated with the random motions of atoms molecules etc." halliday and resnick "fundamentals of physcis"

the transferred energy is called heat, not heat itself. and remember when I say tranferred I mean

"see now the term transfer is misleading. It does not mean anything material flows into or out of the object, like the flow of water for example. I would say it's more like the electronic transfer of money between two bank accounts. the number in one account goes up while the number in the other goes down. again, a number."

now energy can be "transferred" between a system and its environment as work, which is a force acting on a system through a certain distance. heat and work, unlike temperature, pressure, and volume, do not exists by themselves. they only exist as to decribe the "transfer" in or out of a system.

see the same thing applies to force and it does to energy. you can apply a force, doesn't mean it exists. we have given forces name "gravitational force" or gravity. doesn't mean there's a gravity "being" out there that is pushing down on us. it means that there's a centripetal acceleration inwards (towards us) that is keeping us on this planet. same with friction.

again a joule is a made up thing. rouhly in physics it's force x distance (for those that know calculus I know it's involves integration). force=newtons, distance=meters. n*m or a newton meter is a joule.

a newton is a force. force= mass*acceleration.

thereforea joule can be measure by the mass and the acceleration of an object, times the distance it goes. that's how you can measure it.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.
