Hey, thanks! I'm glad you're PUMPED with the GROW ENERGY man I'll pass the good vibes along. Maybe some for the myc
I didn't know at the time how else I could get spores for this species, so I just went for it. It's been awesome to think that this all started from an eighth of dried caps. Which we ate all of, except for the crumbs that snowballed into
inb4 it's actually some woodloving lbm spores that dried onto the caps lol

Correct, I always used fully digestible material to top off my beds. My last 2 pics were dry, adding soil to the top may help to keep moist longer if Mother Nature doesn't do her part but I dunno? I never tried for perfect flush, just wanted enough for me and my friends to have some fun.
Once I had one jar of grain, I stopped adding grain. No need to complicate or risk contams with a bad jar. With the spawn you'll have soon (your basket of chips) you can simply use the colonized wood chips to further perpetuate new spawn chips. The grain is only to germinate the spores, once on the wood it is strong enough to move to new wood.
Another way I increased the mycelium was by rolling up a bunch of colonized chips in a piece of soaked cardboard. It will take over the cardboard completely and then you can use for a new bed. Put layer of chips, then mat of cardboard, then more chips. This will give you broad layer of mycelium to go both up and down in patch.
Side note, I would suggest putting your bed in an area that isn't suspicious for you to be looking closely at the ground. I was super excited when the first pins showed up and wanted to look at them every day, but I'm always gardening so my neighbors think I'm crazy and up to something wierd all the time so no biggie if I'm checking on the "dirt". Putting beds in public locations require more patience than I generally have (only going in quickly for harvest for example) and great eyesight to be able to observe without drawing attention.
Never tried fruiting in tub, so can't help there, but good luck!

Thanks, Psylo-not. I think I'll save the grain / jars I bought for pan cyans, and stick to woodchip tubs from here on
Current state of grow:

Cool mycelium:

Two tubs down

TRICH SCARE!!! Either false alarm or the myc toe it up

Tub #1 progress, day 4

Tub #2 progress day 2.5

Don't cover the patches with dirt. Make them no more than 2.5 inches thick.
I sprinkle colonized grain on the ground. Then I cover it with an inch or two of wood chips. And start watering.
-------------------- Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

I put the second tub outside. It just stopped raining, so I watered it. Is it a good idea to leave it uncovered, or cover it?
Currently I have the lids left loosely on the tubs for storage indoors, there are some small gaps where it's not meeting the bag that's wrapped over the tub but it is largely covered. I am just trying to allow for FAE and keeping the humidity in, perhaps I need more FAE?
Should I keep the lid on or off the tub that's been placed outside? (it's around 60 F outside, shouldn't get too much colder than 60)
