Using a strangers credit card
    #22409034 - 10/20/15 12:05 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

On my xbox live I went to buy something and someones credit card number and name came up that I don't know.  I have no idea how it got there either.  I racked up $120 worth in games on there.  I'm feeling guilty and paranoid now that i'm going to get in trouble.  The card is tied directly to my gamer tag so it's not a mystery who used the card.

Should I be worried?  I feel too guilty to buy anything else with it, I figure $120 bucks of someone else's money is about as much as my conscious can handle.

If no one else uses your Xbox then I would assume someone you used to live with did, or you live account was hacked at some point. Dick move if it's the former, cool beans if it's the latter.

Of course you should be worried. You knowingly and blatantly committed credit card fraud.

I gotta ask: what did you THINK would happen here?

I wasn't really thinking clearly down the line it was more of an opportunist impulse decision.

Do you have a bank acct?

Worst comes to worst just claim stupidity. You didnt notice someone elses card was linked to your acct.

Stupid decision though man. Do you really wanna risk trouble with the law over video games?

Id stop racking up money on it and try to act like nothing ever happened so you dont get in trouble already.

I was going to buy the new AC game today but I refrained.  So far nothing has happened.  For some reason I could only rationalize to myself $120 in damages and no more.  The devil on my shoulder is telling me "fuck it, you've already crossed the line, do what ever you want, buy that game you want."

Fraud and possibly identity theft, I would call microsoft support right now and proactively report mistakenly using a CC that appeared under your profile IMMEDIATELY, and don't make shitty decisions going forward in life

Is there a chance the person just won't notice or won't follow through with finding out where the charges came from?  It's easy to judge me I understand that, been when your broke and a random credit card pops up when you try to buy something you have to ask yourself... would you buy something you want?

For some reason of course it was on there and you used it and what's done is done. I personally wouldn't proceed to add additional charges and I would plead ignorance if someone questioned me about it.

Fuck that shit, I would buy anything and everything that I ever wanted. It's not your fault someone's cc info ended up tied to your account. You're not liable for anything that happens. If asked, just say you didn't look to see what card was being charged and assumed it was yours. You can't be blamed for someone else's mistake. Take advantage, you deserve it.

This is what I tell myself.  It's been a month since my first charge and nothing has happened, in fact I can still buy shit on it.  Which means that the cc company's fraud alert system has not picked up on the charges.  Maybe i'm in the clear!

thats not how its going to work if the person who owns the credit card reports the fraud. The entity selling the games will be stuck with the bill, and likely try to charge them for it.

Best case scenario it just gets paid and they assume it was their charges.

Either way, id remain ignorant, not buy anymore, and wait to see what happens. Buying more and incriminating yourself sounds like a bad idea, but to each their own.

Anonymous #1 unlike the poster above you appear to have enough of a conscientious that you already feel guilty. Some folks, usually labelled as psychopaths, are incapable of empathy and are usually also very narcissistic. They just don't care about anybody or anything beyond themselves and Anonymous #8 is giving us a prime example of that sort of sick individual.

Of course you feel guilty, you know that someone is now out the $120 and has had to labor to earn that money. You are also aware of how you would feel if the crime was against you, and you know how you are now thinking about yourself given your actions, not good right? It really boils down to a question of, "are you a good person or not?" and only you can truly answer that.

That being said, all people, even good ones make mistakes. The question is what have you learned from this, if anything?

Oh and #8 thinking you can just bluff your way through a fraud charge is just the sort of simplistic thinking that most psychopathic narcissists indulge in, they actually think they are smarter than everyone else and that usually ends up with them getting a prison sentence.

The good news is for $120 the authorities and even Visa is not likely to follow up on it to your level. They will blame the card holder for allowing his/her number to get out and stick them with the loss and the trouble of getting the card replaced.

The card has been rendered no longer valid.  The holder must have become aware of the charges.

You might be lucky, they might have just disputed the charge OR the card has been reported stolen (then you're probably fucked)

:goodluck:
