Hi
So I made this impulsive purchase of a grow kit (before I found Shroomery), the one with a plastic bag and stuff After finding Shroomery I want to do it the right way
I did however buy a "growbox" with builtin heater, is that a complete waste or can I use it at all?
It's this one: http://i.imgur.com/z3q6jBM.jpg
After buying that "growbox" I found a guide here on how to build a real SGFC, so if it isn't going to work, I'll make a real one
Thanks in advance

I would return the growbox and case the shit but that's only me.

It looks like a dub tub... better than a lot of kits I've seen...is it cakes, or like a bulk substrate?

Don't bother with an SGFC. Just place whatever the substrate is in a small 15-30qt mini-monotub. You'll probably need to mist every 2-5 days.
I could be wrong, but I'd say there is almost nobody on this forum who knows what they are doing and still uses an SGFC. That's not to say it won't get the job done, it's just hard to build, more work to use, space inefficient, and requires awkward placement to draw air through the bottom holes.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."

Thanks guys
@LocN9ne - I didn't buy that as part of a kit. I think it's actually used to pre grow stems of smaller plants.
@Machiavelliavore - I need all the advise you can give me. I'll need to look up what a monotub is, haven't heard about that before

Basically just a plastic tub with holes in the top and bottom, about 1-1.5"
These holes are stuffed with poly to limit air exchange. Polyfill is polyester synthetic fiber that is used in quints and as pillow stuffing, but essentially acts as a fiberous 3d filter of variable thickness when squished into a ball and stuffed in a hole.
The bottom holes are stuff very tightly, so that only constantly pressure can create meaningful gas exchange. The top holes are stuffed very loosely, just to slightly limit free air exchange.
The idea is supposedly that CO2 builds up at the bottom of the tub and pours out the bottom holes, creating a vacuum which draws in more fresh air through the top holes. There are probably all kinds of other flow dynamics at play. Regardless, they work.
Can you post a pic of your substrate on shroomery or link to the vendor's page? I don't wanna go offsite.

I still use my SGFC tho almost never for cubes. A SGFC is fine to have, but I wouldn't build a dozen of them. Monotubs on the other hand, I have more than I have room to fruit

I agree with these guys. My first grow was with a SGFC and I said fuck that and built a mono tub and switched to bulk. Way less effort, way bigger yield. It's a no brainer.
-------------------- Considering spores can survive the vacuum of space, I would assume it's safe to say that mushrooms are on every planet waiting for the right conditions to present themselves. What it all boils down to, is aliens are on shrooms.

I'll definitely consider going the monotub way instead. I still need to read a bit more about it. But from what I can see from the harvests these give, it's quite impressive.
This is my current setup (noob I know). Just need to finish these and then on to a real grow
First one is A+ (been sitting for 1 week) http://i.imgur.com/q1XgwRB.jpg http://i.imgur.com/dacevMg.jpg
Second one is Koh Samui (don't know what these are, but sounded good. Been sitting for 1 day) http://i.imgur.com/EKkqn8V.jpg http://i.imgur.com/rFFKRW0.jpg

http:// Hi this is my second grow kit I've ever done and at the minute it's taking an eternity for the mycelium to colonise the grow kit tub. My first kit was a bag on rye grain and after injecting my chosen spores (psilocybin cubensis ecuador) the bag fully colonise by around 4 weeks where as this current grow kit tub is around 8 weeks in since injecting and yet the bottom on one side is taking forever to colonise. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? Thanks in advanced Iain

So, I just did my first harvest of A+ shrooms. In total I got 215 grams fresh.

nice job on the kit and its great to hear you will be doing this yourself this time did you take any spore prints off that grow? if not you should have then you wouldn't have to buy spores....lol

I'm not quite sure how to do spore prints yet, but I'll try to find out As you were saying, no need to pay money for something you can make yourself

Pretty much you just wipe down a tupperware container with alcohol, and in gloved sanitized hands, unroll your tinfoil past whats sticking out to get a clean section off the roll, and place some in the tupperware.
Grab the top of a recently opened cap, and with a sharp knife, slice it as close to the gills as possible. Place the cap on the foil for 12-24 hours with the lid closed. Then take it out and let the print dry for another 24 hours with the lid cracked a bit. Then just fold the foil up, trying not to touch the inside of the foil.
