I feel like a little kid on christmas or something, seriously.
Very nice to see that Harper and his ridiculous power hungry mentality has been eliminated, and by a majority government to boot!
couldn't have asked for a better result.
Yep I know most you USA residents think our politics are a joke, thats ok. I'm still happy as can be
Thank you voters of Canada!!!

Also Harper trying to make niqab an issue was moronic. He alienated whole ridings with that shit. I don't know a single person who thinks face covering is an important issue. Harper thought he could play the xenophobia card and it backfired. He should have stuck to talking about important shit like the economy instead he tried to play us all for fools by acting like only he could save us from terrorism. Justin better not have lied about the weed.

I didnt want Steven Harper to win, but everyone tread softy on how joyous you are. I trust the Liberal party as much I can see them in my daily life. We have to stay on top of what theyre up to right now, so they dont get carried away so much later, once people stop caring about politics again.
But come on!!! Doesn't anyone find it funny that Canada lags behind America and uses the "real change" platform that Obama used to great success, and all the people celebrating are celebrating in the same way, cause history repeats itself, in Canada's case a few late years after America lol
OHHHH Canada.... These are times to watch your back more than ever!

That is true but the conservatives, though they will resist the libs as much as possible, dont have the seats to interfere. On important issues the ndp will vote with the libs, and while we wont see all their promises materialize im pretty sure he'll legalize weed, i mean its what about 70% of the country supports

cap and trade
obama had the house, the senate and of course the executive branch and yet with his filibuster proof majority he couldnt get cap and trade passed, he couldnt get a lot of bills passed in those 2 years and he kept blaming the republicans even though it was his own party that was shooting them down

This isn't the US. Marijuana will be legal in this country in less than 2 years. They have a majority, they can pass anything they want if Trudeau tells them too.

That's not how it works in a parliamentary system. Everyone has to vote the same way - the way the party leader says they vote. If they don't, the government is dissolved and they call new elections.

Well I mean they technically can vote against the PM if they want, but if it's something important they risk getting kicked out of the party. Also, if the party loses confidence in their leader, they can elect a new one and then that person becomes PM.

Harper has changed the way voting works. He created a "stick together" culture. To a point where you wondered if his MPs had freedom of choice.
The liberals have been in the opposition too long not to pass a shit ton of bills. Omnibus all of them to speed shit up.

Legalizing marijuana was one of the Liberal parties platform. They have a majority. In Canada - that means that they basically can pass any bill they want (of course, the laws have to withstand consitutional / charter challenges - which is kind of the purpose of the Senate, to provide a sober second thought on if the bill is actually OK. ). It's not like the US system. Technically MPs can vote against their party - but as noted if it's a campaign promise they are going to be booted from the party. Of course, opposition parties can also add support to bills to help it pass.

I agree. However 2 out of 3 official parties support legalization - so it seems to be how the country is headed. What I would like to see is immediate decriminalization and then legalization asap - we will see what happens. I doubt they would renege on this promise, they made it kind of central.

Yep I believe the time has finally come and Trudeau will legalize weed in the next few years.
I am and will continue to celebrate this for some time to come.
He may also implement proportional representation which would also be huge .
This is wonderful news for Canada. With such a strong majority he can easily follow through with his campaign promise to legalize especially since a few states have already blazed the trail and shown the benefits.
