necessity of pressure cooker

Just wondering how necessary a pressure cooker is when sterilizing the cakes, if I would cook longer in a normal pan with a reasonably sealing lid, how sure would I be everything is sterile ?
Don't want to waste mats, so thoughts on the necessity of a pressure cooker are welcome.
Greetings

You can steam sterilize brf cakes in the way you mentioned, but for everything else in this hobby a PC is a necessity.

You can really do a lot without a pressure cooker, including PF tek. That's the point of PF tek, you don't need a PC. You can spawn cakes to coir or poo and get some seriously respectable yields.
You can also do slurry and 9er tek without a PC, which gives you some basic culture and inoculation options.
Still, ain't no denying a PC is a mandatory tool if you're serious about mycology as a hoby. If you just wanna grow some mushrooms, you don't need it.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

You don't need a pc to pasteurize anything... Pasteurization for mycology is 140-160f internal temperature.

If you don't want to waste materials getting a PC is a good idea.

Greetings
0 need for a PC when doing pf-cakes. the jar lids should seal nice and you should have a dry verm barrier as filter. the seal of the pot lid is just to keep temps high.

Unless you're not in the US. UK customers can expect to pay about $200 in total for the Presto and shipping, import duties, etc.
Which I did. And like tetherface, it was the best $200 I spent in this hobby.

wow I didn't realize there was that many extra fees trying to get things shipped to other countries damn... I guess it makes a stronger local economy though there are no PC's manufactured in the UK grey?

you dont really need 15 psi either, size is the most important IMO, fit more jars, just add 30-60mins cookign time if you have a lower PSI/bar PC.

In my experiments and in the wide variety of teks and substrates I have tried and developed I have learned a strong variety of different methods and materials that can be used without a pressure cooker. Yet still pretty much everything I grow goes thru my cookers first. So there's that, take note as you will.
