reusing myc?
    #22405102 - 10/19/15 07:25 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Might be a very noob question but , once my mono tub is done fruiting can I take some of the myc and place it into some substrate like coir and verm, or maybe even rye. To start the whole process over without injecting new jars or what?!
Hopefully someone can answer

you want to take a clone from an actual small mushroom when it first starts producing. you take the small pin and put it on a plate of agar, then it continues to grow and you can create additional petri dishes or pasty plates from that. once you have some clean cultures on agar, you can then drop the agar on grains and do more monotubs or whatever from that.

Leads to contam that's a bummer. Would love to cut out all the extra waiting. And I have to cut an actual pin off? And place it in the agar?

pin or the inside flesh of a mushroom to agar. 1-2 transfers from that plate to more plates, then you have a clean culture to continue growing.

Anywere that sells premade agar dishes? I don't have a PC at the moment. Never thought of putting the flesh in agar. Always thought it would be the myc

I'd recommend looking on craigslist for a used pressure cooker before looking for premade agar plates. I got a pressure cooker on craigslist for $10.

this old gal has never let me down. best $10 I ever spent.

makes great compost, bury in the garden with some aged manure, you may still get a few surprises :mushroomgrow:
