Early mycelium or mold? (Pics)
    #22405088 - 10/19/15 07:22 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

So I noticed this yesterday morning, and since then it's doubled in size. A buddy said it looks like mould. But both are right under inoculation points. Sorry this is my first time growing and I don't know what to look for... Strain is Cambodian if that helps

can tell either way. give it a few more days. contams usually grow very fast. if it is mold, itll be 100% in like 2-3 days and probably look and smell something funky. if its magic mushies, it'll take like 7-14 days to reach 100% and smell like fresh mushrooms.

well, you *are* growing a mould...

hah

but yeah, perfectly reasonable that could be what you want

what is that substrate, btw? is the mycelium gonna be able to get through it?

Looks like some chunky ass brf... hard to tell in the pic right now though... a 24 hour later pic will help a brotha out in identifying.

Substrate is indeed BRF, added a little too much water so it's clumpy/sandy

yeah that's not good

this is why i advocate just using the rice, itself

less work, less money, can't fuck it up, more airy

which also means you can crumble and mix and get it to colonize faster (but only with bags)

Just a note, they look more white and less grey today, also have expanded about 5mm in all directions overnight. Will put up another pic in 12 hours

alright so this is 24 hours later, as you can see its gone from a more grey colour to almost white, and grown about 5mm in each direction

:whatshesaid:
I think its mycelium, you will be able to tell very soon because if it is you should start to see rhizomorphic growth around the edges as it starts colonizing more of the substrate.

Your substrate does look pretty clumpy though, which probably wont be a big deal if your spawning to bulk, which I assume you are considering it looks like your using pretty big jars.

first one looks like good myc, second one is iffy but leave it be for a while because I have had jars that I have literally put outside because I thought they were bad(milky and no rhyzios) but they turned out fine.
