Hey there shroomery members and staff I need your guys help! I made a monotub I didn't do a casing layer. I bought two small bags from amazon with a air filter patch and I put rye grain inside and let them colonize. Right now I'm stuck. I made my monotub when they were fully colonized but I didn't do a casing layer. I only have vermiculite at the moment. My monotub has 4 holes on each side 2 on top and 2 at bottom. Polyfil is super packed at bottom and loose on top. My storage bin isn't clear its blue, so I cut a square on the lid and put saran wrap on top and taped it so light can get through and so I can see how everything is going. Right now I have one colonized bag untouched inside and the other bag I broke down by hand (I don't know if that was a mistake) I spread it out inside a smaller plastic bin and put saran wrap on top. I barely put the saran wrap on top because I have a humidifier inside that wets everything and the mycelium is getting wet not soaking wet but droplets of water stay in the mycelium so I put saran wrap on top with holes. My other bag is untouched I cut the top portion of the bag and I'm letting it sit there inside the monotub. I need help. I want to save the bag that was untouched but i don't know how to! Please help me I'm stuck, I want to at least save the bag with colonized myc and grow some mushrooms off it. The strain is golden teachers

The picture inside is a bit blurry because the humidifier but the white cap you see at the top right is the humidifier. The plastic bin inside with saran wrap is the myc I broke up with gloves after sterilizing my gloves they have droplets of water but I don't know if that will create contams or not. The bag on left is thow both of them were before I broke up one of them. I want to save that bag or at least both please help me. I have payday on Wednesday and both of bags have been fully colonized for about 4days now so I don't know if they will go bad before i buy casing stuff

Why do you have so many holes? What's wrong with the normal 6 hole configuration? Also, why are you so concerned about casing layers? I don't understand why the bag needs "saving". You can't just make another tub with it, or let it hang out until you're ready to?
The tone of your posts makes me feel like I'm missing something here. I don't see the emergency to do anything other than build a new monotub with the right hole config.

man as a biginner you MUST follow the tek as it is and not to improvise!
you cant use verm only you ll need coco coir or coco peat (they are the same)
you ll need to build the tubs correctly! you can always use a plastic tap to cover the holes you have already made
if you broke the fully colonized grain you should have left it inside the bag and it will re-colonize (thats the idea of shaking) now hope that your grains wont catch a contam
and leave the other bag as it is if it's fully colonized till you build a better monotub and know how to make a substrate and casing
look go to this thread "shroomery 101"
read about grain - substrates (coir, verm, gypsum) - monotubs - casing(which is not necessary with p.cubes)
good luck

I'm not sure he did some of those things. I can't digest wall-of-text so well so you could be right.
Assuming there's nothing else wrong, stop worrying about casing materials and worry about having enough coir to make more tubs with those bags. Jars are a little easier for beginners btw.

I made more holes than necessary I used a lighter and knife instead of a drill lol at me. I'm dumb. I have a black tote that has no holes,I asked if I could save my bag because I read on shroomery that fully colonized myc can go bad as in they won't produce mushrooms. Im a noon at this I used tape to cover the excess holes. Tell me where I can find the things I need give me a list please. Can I take out the bag and put it inside a drawer at room temp? Will it Starr pinning or go bad?

I thought casing layers were a requirement. Thats why I was over thinking. I know I shouldn't have broken my colonized bag but I couldn't help it I want a lot of yield so I spreaded it out on the plastic bin.

no casing is not required.
hope that your plastic pin doesnt catch contams (also i doubt that it will survive), colonize again so you can re-use it
regarding the other bag that you didnt open it, you can store a fully colonized grain bag for week+ in a room temp. or inside a fridge for a couple of months...just dont open the bag.
use the links above by inocule or use this link:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20541405
and look for bulk substrates (coir mixed with verm are the noob friendly sub.)
man if you are a noob you should read a lot before doing anything, follow the tek as it is and ask questions here before taking any actions.

When the mycelium starting taking over the grain is called colonizing...you dont do anything really! So to let it colonize is to leave the mycelium do its work.
