i'm afriad of this drug. i've heard alot of horrible, scary experiences and i can't get them out of my mind. i'm really eager to try a serious hallucinogen such as this, but i want to do whatever i can to lessen the chance of a bad trip.
what should be my mindset? what can i do?

I wouldn't really worry the trip is very brief so even if its scary it's over in a matter of minutes.
I took a good hit of the stuff lying on my bed listning to starshpongled banner by shpongle and the bass loop created these two giant cogs that were drawing my head up into the upper cog. At this point i had absolutely no idea that this was because i had smoked salvia(my eyes were closed) so i started to feel pretty worried as i was thinking im going to get crushed in the cogs. I allowed myself to get drawn into the cogs but it was just too bloody strange as the gravity was following the movement of my body through the cogs. I sat upright, opening my eyes but I thought i had to allow the experience to continue. After about a minute my ego caught up and i realised I was in control.
I would say be in a quiet room, but you probably want to take someone more experienced word about this as im not sure. It's quite an unforgiving drug but it's not a huge deal like having a bad trip that lasts more than a couple of minutes.

I don't think there's anything you can do to prepare... the experience is so alien, it just takes over. And its fucking amazing, and then its over before you know it. My recommendation is to smile right before the drug takes hold.

It's not scary... its just uncomfortable and very disorienting. So, have a goal in mind before you start. It's kinda like being sucked into a videogame, the world's eyes are entirely on you... Try and actually WILL yourself into a trip. Go somewhere, talk to god, beg him for forgiveness like the peyote religions... reflect on life, put on some trippy music...

If it scares you that much, maybe you shouldn't try it. I say just mentaly prepare yourself, set a goal and be in a good mood before you do it.

If you are frightened, it is not time to take salvia.

anxiety before trying any new drug is inevitable, afterall, you are willingly giving up control (at least with salvia) in order to experience something you can't even imagine. but remember, doing anything worth while involves some kind of a risk on your part, and usually you will be rewarded. If you are so scared that you are trembling before you smoke it, maybe you should hold off and do a little self exploration why you want to smoke this plant, otherwise, smile and tell yourself "this is going to be an experience I will remember for the rest of my life" and smoke that shit!

thanks for the tips guys :] but after about 6 hits of 10x salvia (taken in a "spoon" pipe) i had no hallucination or anything of the sort. it was simply an awkward high.
any suggestions for round two?

Suggestions for round two: hold it in longer and take bigger hits. You'll probably want to use a waterpipe with salvia, and many people recommend a torch lighter. Have low lighting and a good setting.

My recommendations:
Take huge hits. Hold each hit for a slow count of twenty. Do not pause between taking hits. Exhale the first and hit again immediately! Exhale out your nose rather than mouth, if possible. Use a pipe or bong, not a joint.
Others recommend:
Use a torch lighter. Others swear by this, but I don't see the big deal. Use a bong. Others swear by this, but I find a good chamber pipe works best.

I strongly recommend a bong. salvia vaporized hot and in a pipe the smoke is just way to damn hot. a bong is a must IMO.
u dont need a torch lighter, BIC or even matches, anything with fire will do it.
I use the regular leaf, not extract, so I dont know how that stuff looks, but I prepare 3-4 bowls before hand. I crrush enough leaf and prepare the bowls on seperate peices of paper so that after the huge hit, the sitter can drop in the next bowl right away while I am counting to 20.
It really is about smoking until you can't. Even if you think "oh something is happening" keep holding your breath, taking another pull, untill you completely forget everything. that is the way to enter salvia space.

back before salvia was very popular and headshops were selling x10 etc, we ordered a bunch of just dried salvia. i chewed two coffee filters full of it for 10 minutes each, holding the juices under my tongue, then i smoked some after that 20 minutes. I actually felt almost nothing. It was like a light marijuana buzz, no visuals though. Maybe its cause it wasn't an extract?

I have never found the smoke too hot from a chamber pipe, but then I have been smoking out of a chamber pipe many years, so I may have burned out my sense of 'that is hot'.

This is absolutely correct. Don't pause between hits to catch your breath. Smoke out, smoke in. When lady salvia starts scratching the back side of your eyeballs, and you forget that you exist, then you can stop smoking.

dude, dont even worry. its not that crazy, and its over in a couple of minutes. its fun at first because its a totally different from anything you've ever tried....but after a while it gets old and isnt really all that great. if you think you're gonna have a bad trip then you probably will. just sit on a comfortable chair, relax, and let it take you...

You can in the UK, I saw leaf, 2x and 5x (I think... no 10x, i'm pretty sure) in a hippy shop in Norwich called Head In The Clouds, and that's not even a proper head shop.
