Can't see when monotub starts pinning

So I bought these tubs which appear mostly transparent but aren't totally see-through. They let through light and you can see into them, but the image is slightly diffused and difficult to see in.
I just got my first monotub on the go and am waiting for them to pin, then I'll "dial them in". I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to open the tub to look while they're still pinning, right? What do?

you can open a monotub. the idea i think is that you don't have to open it up because misting and fanning isn't necessary.
of course if you do it 20 times a day it can become disruptive, but you can open it every now and then to take a peek.

This makes no sense...."dialing them in" is giving them the proper amount of FAE, after full colonization, so they can pin.
We fruit bulk tubs at full colonization, not at the signs of the first pin, as that could take a week or 2.
Dialing it in refers to stuffing the holes with polyfill just right as to not have to manually mist/fan.

Wrong, open it up and look, and "dial it in" while your at it.

Oh I don't know where I read that you only "dial in" once they've started pinning. Sorry, must've misread totally!
Just had a look at them, not pinned yet but that's what I expected as it's only 5 days in. I stuffed some polyfill in the sides and aimed a fan indirectly at the tub, so hopefully that'll be it!
When they start pinning I just continue doing the same thing until they fully fruit, then? Nothing else I need to do once the pinning process starts?

nope, once the tub is set up it should be maintained free.

some people wait for pins which makes no sense to me as p[innign triggers trigger pinning and if you can't see through your tub then it ain't getting enough light so i would not wait for pins that will pop in sub par conditions

As you can see, light can go through, but the light is slightly blurred and you can't quite make out pictures. I think it should be OK, no?
Is indirect sunlight enough or should I have my bedroom main light on during the day?

don't aim your fan directly at the tub you can keep a fan in the room but aim it away from your tubs or you may have issues with yer tub drying out or throw off the "thermodynamics" of yer tub (never used that word before...lol)

"I stuffed some polyfill in the sides and aimed a fan **indirectly** at the tub"
The tub is above head level to the left of my cupboard, the fan is aimed slightly upwards and to the right. This is far enough from the tub, yes?
So far in terms of maintenance I have:
- Radiator on 24/7 keeping a constant temperature of 70F in the room in which the spawn and tubs are kept - Curtains left open to let in daylight and sometimes leave the light upstairs on for anywhere from 2-12 hours a day because I'm not sure exactly how much light they need - A fan running while I'm awake ~16hrs a day?
This seems like a lot of electricity/gas upkeep. Is this normal, or am I overdoing any aspect?

heat will cost money but a fan costs ya 10 pence a day tops CFL lights are also real cheap to use.
I try to minimize the amount of heat I use but in the winter its gotta be on 24/7. at colder temps things will just go a bit slower, you dont need 70F especially if you dont use the room for anything but culting.

Yeah I just checked my bill, £50 for gas as opposed to the usual £20-25! Jeez. It's coming into winter just now as well so it'll need to stay on.

You can definitely look into a tub. Just don't go crazy with it. And you should let your tub consolidate for at least a week before putting it into fruiting. I wait for 100% colonization, then I wait an extra 2 weeks for consolidation and I get insane pinsets. Your substrate will let you know when it's ready, because 100% colonization is a trigger. Then stuff your poly, and put a 6500k light on it 12 on 12 off and watch it explode. The idea of the monotub is set and forget, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to push it in the right direction and get your conditions right. 99% of the time it's just set and forget though. I suggest rebuilding your mono once your done with this grow, and make it with a CLEAR tub, not a translucent one, so you never have this problem again. Good luck.
-------------------- Considering spores can survive the vacuum of space, I would assume it's safe to say that mushrooms are on every planet waiting for the right conditions to present themselves. What it all boils down to, is aliens are on shrooms.
