Do shrooms really treat depression well?

I've dealt with depression and anxiety for about 8 years now and was wondering if shrooms might be able to help? And I'm sure it varies from person to person but how long do the benefits of psilocybin last? I feel like I've been running out of options lately and I would literally kill myself before I ever took any antidepressant pharmaceuticals so I'm hoping this may be a natural alternative that will be a lot more effective but part of me feels like I've been struggling with depression for so long that it may be too much of a habit for me to get out of? Any helpful information is appreciated.

(Grain-to-Grain) Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary) Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful) Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

I have been helped immensely by psilocybin personally. I might even venture to say it saved my life, as I used to be a major suicide risk.
Since you are in a such a volatile state of mind right now, I would avoid high doses, even medium doses. Micro doses can be very helpful, but are also veryy manageable compared to larger doses. I've even spoken to my mother comfortably on a micro dose.
It really helps you break those habits of negative thought though, helps you see in things in a more constructive way. At least for me. As long as you keep doing it occasionally, and keep thinking in that way, the benefits can last a long time.
Have a good trip sitter around maybe. due to the circumstances.

I've been interested in microdosing. I do want to do a full trip at some point though but I'll make sure to wait until I'm in a good state of mind. Isn't a microdose like .5 or 1 gram? I understand what you said in my other post about it not being a magic pill though, I honestly wouldn't want it to be a magic pill because then I'd just be dependent on it to deal with my depression. I'm mostly looking for something that can guide me out of my depression rather than just take it away. And of course I'd take shrooms for fun at some point but regardless of the reasons I take them I'll always approach them with respect. Thank you for your helpful replies by the way

This understanding is key, having that understanding you should do well.
Nothing wrong with using them for fun too. But yeah, .5 grams to a gram is what I've messed with. Even less can be good too, but not in a noticeable way.

Just be careful because in my opinion they're not intrinsically beneficial. They can potentiate everything, good and bad. They can provide a good wipe and reset to your mental state, but they can also take you straight to mental hell. There was a time for me in which I was on emotionally shaky ground and doing psychedelics really only seemed to take me further away from any sense of groundedness and only added more confusion to my mental situation. Everybody is different

Ya I second the other posters. It sort of helps you see things with a new perspective more easily. I remember a study coming out a while back about psilocybin being used to help uncondition a fear response in mice. It feels like it sort of works the same way with some of the bad feelings in depression. It's easier to look at stuff that had really bothered you in the past and not feel bad about it (at least not in the same way. You might giggle about it or you might develop a new fear instead if it goes bad.). That new feeling seems to stick around after the trip for several days or weeks for me, and it helps you get a new perspective when I reconsider the old stuff that bothered me.

the last several weeks I've been taking a ~.1g micro dose every ~5 days (eat food prior to consuming to stay below threshold effects... for me anyway). I have found it to be helpful and things seem better or at least less bad for the next several days following a micro dose for up to 10 days and after that I'm less emotionally stable again. I have more energy the day that I take one so I like to take them on a day when I can go ride my bike for a while. I find exercise beneficial on its own but more so with a micro dose.
