Whats up my dudes. So recently I found and tried to trip on red caps but barely got a slight buzz which motivated me to get more! They are in season for about another month until the last days of fall according to its wiki http:/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panaeolus_cinctulus. So far Ive found a few on nice lawns and took their spores and I have a few questions to ask the community. I was wonder if I found suitable lawns or areas of grass (right kind of soil, gets watered, high enough grass to trap moisture) and sprinkled some spores around would they pop up soon? What time of the day/night do they appear? I ask because I wouldn't want to harvest in plain site. Is it possible to find them at night or the very early a.m.?
I will be posting all my red caps or possible red caps here, Im in CA btw Please fell free to share your finds!

Mushrooms do not grow that quickly, it takes a year-years to establish a mycelial network to fruit mushrooms, also mushrooms will take about a week+ to grow so they will be out day and night, only few genera like the inky caps come up in a few days. and die out.

Cinctulus is the best mushroom I have ever used. I ate a very small 4g dry and had a very pleasant experience. The trick to finding them is looking in newly sodded areas. You can find them anywhere....but if you want to save time, look for grass that has almost no weeds, clovers, moss, etc. It is the kind of grass that you can leave a very clear footprint in. The reason for this is because it still has a great deal of nutrients. After a year or less, the grass is no longer very fertile and the cincts don't flourish. This is my experience. Also, if you have a pasture you can look at with horses, look directly on or around the horse dung. And by directly I mean practically on top of it.

Thanks for the responses guys.I guess that idea of spreading these spores around my neighborhood wont yeild mushies this season but will start its growth right?
This morning i found a few more specimens that where older than others ive found. Kinda dry and the grass under them was blasted with black spores. Gardeners would have slaughtered them have i not picked them when i did! You are right about the grass.
Will post pics soon

Well here are the pictures. I walked around the whole property and found all these plus some non actives I didn't pick. Still waiting on the spore prints. It looks like some of them where being eaten. Is that considered blue bruising on the pic with the stems? Not sure but it looks like I have 2 different kinds please help ID.

I think those are all cincts. And no...i don't see any blue bruising. I think the most common bruising in these is at the feet where you can see the mycelium. Also...some caps and stems will appear to be olive colored. Bluing is somewhat rare in these ime.

Whats up shroomers, my apologies for the delayed update just been busy with work and all. I hope to keep posting my finds and that the weather blesses me/us with a better climate to find them!
Well I believe this is my fourth find, all of which have been in small amounts unfortunately. Found a few days ago on 10/20. On my way home from work my trained red cap mushroom eye spotted a single specimen on a large area of new fresh grass (public park) in between a newly built target and newly built apartment homes (fresh grass everywhere!). That whole area was constructed no more than 2 years ago. I returned in the afternoon with a friend to see if I could still find it and it was gone but I found a different patch with about 5 tiny specimens, so I picked them. Security for that shopping area rolled up on me and asked if I was looking for something, we lied of course and said we were looking for a lost phone haha. During our little convo I asked how often the gardeners come to cut the grass, every 2-3 days was the response. That kind of sucks. Anyway here they are:

I believe I have found suitable areas where they will grow but there are two factors that are limiting the quantity and availability of my finds. 1. Gardeners, they come by my work places at least 2-3 times a week and correct me if im wrong but mushies need like a week to fully grow right? Well they are most likely getting chopped before I can get to them or they dont have time to grow to a size that I can actually spot without moving grass around. 2. The weather, my spots look perfect for red caps I think they just need a good amount of rain water.
It rained a little today whoop whoop! Hopefully the grass gets a little taller to keep in moisture. Also I noticed the spots ive found them at are kind of closed in by buildings which probably helps with moisture.
Happy hunting and shit!
