HELP Password protected laptop
    #22398180 - 10/18/15 02:59 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys,

So my friend has a laptop that I might buy but its password protected login and he doesn't know the password. Its not stolen.  Any suggestions on how to get the password off? I was thinking re-installing the OS .  Or getting into the BIOS.  Thanks for any help

What operating system is it? I only know how to get into Windows XP under those circumstances

--------------------
How to get started in bulk:
Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker
BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box
PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series
How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs)
What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain)
Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary)
Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful)
Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

Yeah, I did what sweetpea said for Windows XP but I'm not sure that works on Windows 7

Get a live version of Linux on a USB stick. Boot into that and use it to save anything you want off the HDD. Remember to use persistent mode. Then reinstall Windows.

Use konboot with EFI booting. You should find a recent torrent online with hardly any hassle.

Assuming the drive isn't encrypted, this will work. I've used it to create a new admin as well as reset the password to existing accounts.

Bypass Windows Logons with the Utilman.exe Trick
https://www.technibble.com/bypass-windows-logons-utilman/

1) Boot a live linux environment and mount the Windows drive.
2) Make a backup of the original utilman $ mv utilman.exe utilman.exe.bak
3) Make a copy of the command prompt and name it utilman.exe $ cp cmd.exe utilman.exe
4) Reboot to the windows login screen and hit [WIN]+E.
5) Boom. System prompt.
6) Reverse the process when you're done.

Use systemrescuecd, or a similar linux live environment, to mount the windows disk and change the password with chntpw.

This should get you started..

Do you have another Windows 7 machine that has your correct password?

If so you could always just live boot with linux and grab the hash from a samba mount to [windowsvolume]/system32/config/sam and replace it on the other drive

just the hash part of course

I use the ultimate boot cd.  (of course they have a usb stick version now too)

It has just about every tool you could need to repair/recover/reformat/virus scan/etc a system, from a bootable CD or usb stick.  It can wipe windows account passwords or just get you to a point you can wipe the system to reinstall from, etc.
