reishi harvest question
    #22397600 - 10/18/15 01:00 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

On 8/24 I put a jar of reishi infested rye grain into a tub of sterilized coir/shredded hardwood, 50/50.  Today, 10/18, I picked--acctually tore off--the various blobs and projections that I took for reishi fruits. Everything I picked was brown or red. Nothing was hard, as in woody, but more like leather, and everything was sticky. It all smelled like mushroom.

My question is: Is this how reishi fruits--I had no conks, only antlers, short ones, and a couple of golf ball sized blobs--is this how resihi fruits are supposed to feel--leathery and sticky? Or have my fruits gone over to the dark side, have they gone bad?

THey should be like soft leather. When dried they are super light but feel hard. Sounds like your good.

My fruits are in the dryer right now. I am hoping for the best.

I have some G. Lucidum spawned on 9th August, damn things are still growing.  They aren't sticky though...

Well, I may have a culture that has that characteristic. Don't know. But I have dried my first harvest and even made my first little batch of tea--tastes bad, but not as bad as cube tea, which isn't saying much. I mean, could anything taste as bad as cube tea?

If you post some photos that would be helpful.

dude, you can't have reishi with a sticky-characteristic, it almost always indicates bacterial contamination...
