BRF Cakes - huge bumps, low yield * 1
    #22397211 - 10/18/15 11:35 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hi everyone.  I've searched the forums but haven't quite found pictures that show the same issue I'm having.  So, I followed EvilMushroom666's PF-style tek exactly, and used a SGFC for my mushrooms.  I had some yield on the first flush, but not nearly what I had hoped for.  Rather than growing fruits, I got lots of these large knotted bump things:

Could anyone help me with what is going on here and how I might be able to fix it?  After my meager first flush, I also rehydrated the perlite since it seemed dry and dunked the cakes again, thinking maybe the RH was poor.  This was a four days ago.  So far a couple of small fruits have emerged, but nothing substantial.

Thanks for your help Shroomery!

Whoa, thats really bizarre.

It kinda looks like puff ball fungi.

Maybe they are a mutant strain of cubenis.

but to grow on each  cake independepently is very unusual.

what strain are u growing?

Not sure what they are but this is a very rare occurance ive never seen before.

Well the 2 most important pinning triggers are rh and fae. If you built your shotgun TO THE T, dont worry about rh. Its there. No need to try amd rehydrate the perlite itself really. If your shotgun was prepared properly, it will stay around 95% over a month.

Your problem might be fae related. Shot guns in an open area right?
No fans blowing on it? And youve got it raised off the ground somehow?

Looks to me like the rigorous mycelium growth on the very base of a stipe, rather than
A mutant. But yeah honestly ive never seen shit like that.. Wierd.

Fraud?

I kinda see what you mean. There is obviously cubenis in the first pic, but that makes sense on the mix-up. The vendor likely mixed cubenis spores with another species (maybe edible?).

Didn't even notice the little fella; Perhaps OP should acquire a clean print from that shroom and try again with a freshly prepared syringe.

I was thinking, could it be truffles? They psychedelic kind?

I dont know know much about truffles, but i know they are usually brown. Maybe this is an albino truffle?

I know that truffles are grown within the substrate, not like that. Also they don't grow from cubensis, and that shroom is looking like a cube to me.

Well, it could be an albino truffle mixed in with cubenis, growing together.

Not sure if its possible. Its my best guess
