Science behind the visuals

Can anyone reference me some information on what exactly the visuals are and why they assume certain specific forms?
I went back in on some LSD recently and was blown away by the intricate paiisley patterns, those mosaic spikey patterns that ebb and flow, circulate and roll. Interlocking with each other. It's very very specific. Fear and loathing is the only real representation of these visuals.
Is there any science on this? I choose LSD because the most research has been done. I also understand that the dmt visuals are something to behold but dmt for the minute is all up for debate I guess, that's a very new area.
Even if no science, it'd be good to get some suvjective responses from acid heads.

I don't have a super informative answer for you right now, but that type of visual you are talking about goes by the name fractals. Thatl give you a good enough base look for information if you go check it out. happy digging!

I think the recent studies on brain activity on these drugs indicate that parts of the brain they usually never communicate with each other do when these drugs are present.

I also was interested at one point why we see OEVs and CEVs while on LSD, mushrooms, and other psychedelics, so I began to do some research. Was all going pretty well as I thought serotonin was the culprit for the visuals. Well as it turns out, Salvia gives some intense visuals but never even tickles your 5-HT receptor.
As it turns out there isn't enough research out there yet to explain visuals/hallucinations.

I can only assume that the infinite pattern of life is visible while on higher states of consciousness which allow u to be aware of it.
LSD and DMT seem to activate it, it seems to be some sort of energy field in my view because it feels alive.

Likely very little scientific research on the visual aspects of LSD on the brain.
But there should be more on it

Most likely the reason is because humans look for patterns in their enviroment to solve problems or get food or most other tasks we are capable of.
Psychedelics have been known to darken the visual cortex, allowing us to fill in the space between the objects we see.

Thanks but I swear all of my knowledge and everything I've read I've been lead to do so by these sacred medicines. DMT really did it then a few trips on 4-aco-dmt and I began to make connections between microcosms and macrocosms. One trip I was basically was in a another universe of the micro. The trip started with a electrical wire reaching out for my face... strange stuff indeed. I didn't really do a thing stuff just falls into my lap and I listen.

If you don't know about the multidisciplinary association for psychedelic studies check them out but basically http://www.maps.org/

People have been altering their consciousness since there were people and animals do it to. Read some of the translated ancient sanskrit stuff on Kundalini. I think some of the ancient people's understood consciousness far better than we in the west are even close to. In fact it's like we've misunderstood it completely.
Here's a free book to get you started. The intro is kinda boring skip it if you like http://monoskop.org/images/0/08/Jung_Gustav_Carl_The_Psychology_of_Kundalini_Yoga_1932.pdf

As far as I know, and I'm not going to dig up sources right now. I'm being lazy. However, some studies suggest that many of the subjective effects are actually caused by reducing the activity in some parts of the brain. This would suggest that it is impairing your brain's ability to filter the information you're receiving, so you end up with a bunch of unprocessed noise getting through. Psychedelics also clearly reduce the brain's reality testing functions.

These logically derived images are some of the most convincingly psychedelic things I have ever seen.
And p.s.
The Quadrivium and Sciencia books are amazing.

Just saying... we would make great friends in real life.
I can related to about everything you said and the pictures you posted. I've been fixated on "transcendence" this year. All through my 20's I refused to accept "the way things are". Now 29, as I go into 30, I see things in the complete opposite and almost obsessed with "how things were". And rather than not accepting it or wanting to change things, I just want to know "why". Drastic fundamental switch in perception, but it's been a trip.

I wasnt trying to invalidate what we know. Howerr there is A LOT about how lsd interacts with the brain that we dont understand and i wanted to point that out.

Here is a very interesting video on psychedelic sciences by David Nichols. Skip ahead to 26:28 where he discusses "How receptor signals change consciousness". He gives his theory on how the brain processes our sensory inputs while on Psychedelics.
