what are some controversial and or underrated movies/shows?
    #22396170 - 10/18/15 01:31 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

I would think Brokeback Mountain is one, which I have never seen. I would think HBO's "OZ" is pretty intense. I would think some of Stanley Kubrick's films have some controversy. The Crying Game was supposedly controversial as well. I'm looking to buy some of these movies I missed out or didn't see since gohastings.com is having a sale, buy one get one free for used items.

I think Boys Don't Cry has its share of controversy. A few IFC Channel and Sundance Film channel movies are pretty original and they can get away with controversy more due to the independent nature of the films, etc. I think KIDS was controversial at one point.

Most movies i like are controversial to someone in some way.  I watched Caligula last night.  An absolutely essential movie to watch on thanksgiving.  If families got together to watch Caligula every thanksgiving like so many watch A Christmas story on the titled holiday, it would change the world for the better.

There was a movie called "the Jacket" that one of my ex's had me watch. Kiera Knightly was the cute chick, and Kris Kristopherson was the villain at the mental hospital. Adrien Body was the protagonist. There was a cool scene where Brody was able to take Knightly back in time and keep her alcoholic mother from burning to death with a cigarette on the couch.

Controversial but not underrated, The Deer Hunter has been on my cable channels lately when I get home at 3AM. When my friends first told me about this in the late 70's and told me what happened it took me 5 years to get up the nerve to watch it.
Who demands more bullets in the gun when forced to play Russian Roulette? There was method to the madness. DeNiro looks apeshit crazy in this scene, and he plays the other 2 and a half hours completely restrained. Also you get to see Meryl Streep back when she was really pretty, and the deer hunting scenes in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania are beautiful.

I'm not trying to get any physical DVDs of movies mentioned so where can I get them cheaper digitally? Is Vudu any good? I think they sell movies for $2.99.

American Me was supposed to be pretty controversial but I never watched it. Apocalypse Now got flack for the water buffalo slaughter scene. Midnight Cowboy was originally x-rated. Vulgar was shunned by Howard Stern.
