Possible jackpot, no experience, please halp
    #22394556 - 10/17/15 05:55 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hey there everybody! Lookin for some thoughts. First things first. . .

Never done shrooms. Was frightened of psychedelics, but now after talking to some folks who have done them and doing some homework of my own it seems pretty cool. I want to try and find them, as I don't have alot of money and I dont really want to be buying anything other than weed. I AM NOT STUPID. I DO NOT WANT TO DIE. If I find a possible shroom rest assured I will study it and puzzle over it until I'm 100% sure. If not, garbage. NBD. I know the horror stories, I am not gonna just pick one and go "cool a mushroom" and eat it.

That being said I'd love any feedback on possible dangers perhaps not mentioned elsewhere here.

I live in MA, North of Boston. Being the fall its getting colder. I don't know, do mushrooms grow in the chillier months? we still have a warm couple days here and there. I think my best target is Panaeolus cinctulus, though I hear Gymnopilus spectabilis might be local as well, and stronger. Again I have no problem spending a few hours scrutinizing to make sure I don't poison myself.

Strength don't really matter to me. I'm not gonna be going nuts and eating tons of these fuckers right out of the gate. Confidence in caution, ya know?

Here's the big reason Im posting this: I live on a small farm with a large yard and a couple small gardens. There's also over 100 acres of state forest across the street and a massive 20 year old manure pile behind the barn. I live here so I won't be trespassing or anything. But seriously, how possible is it that there are shrooms in my backyard? Like right now?

It just seems like too good of an opportunity to pass up. I could be surrounded by mushrooms and oblivious while other good folk are searching like crazy. Might as well, right? Looking at pics I KNOW I've kicked and or seen a few of these in my yard.

If I get stumped and cant tell if they're real, can I just post photos or prints here? Like I said, new here.

Thanks all y'all for listening to me go on and on. If anyone wants to throw me a bone I would be much obliged.

Yes, you can post photos of mushrooms and prints here.

You sir, probably have shit tons of mushrooms in your backyard. And yes, this site is legit as fuck about IDing mushrooms. There are trusted IDers on this site that will blow your mind and could tell you off the top of their heads what exact genus and species it is. But what you should really do, is get into cultivation. Browse the forums, make the plunge, which is cheap, and grow your own. That way you know what exact genetics, and what you're getting 100% without a doubt. Plus there's a real satisfaction from learning how to do it and eating your own crop. Mycology is amazing, and it's a great hobby to get into. I never thought I would get into it, but now I'm obsessed with it. I'm more obsessed with how everything works than I am about tripping. It's just cool as fuck dude. I mean, it's up to you. But I highly suggest it. And this site is where you can learn. There's an over abundance of extremely talented, and incredibly knowledgeable people that will help you every step of the way. Just my 2 cents. Do what you want. Good luck.

Considering spores can survive the vacuum of space, I would assume it's safe to say that mushrooms are on every planet waiting for the right conditions to present themselves. What it all boils down to, is aliens are on shrooms.

good to know guys. So if I find a a real one I should double check and use it to cultivate? Interesting. . . like the old fishing pole v. fish situation. And I know how you feel about the science behind it. Watched a doc about growing weed once. Lost interest when they said you can get up to (or past) 10 years in MA. But I still watched it, the botany was fascinating. I would imagine that cultivating mushrooms is similar but still fairly different, as fungi aren't necessarily plants.

Def gonna look into this.

best route would be to buy spores from a trusted vendor that is a sponsor of the site.  then go from there.

BUT if you just want to try shrooms, the easiest way to find them is to go into boston on this thursday night, go to the orpheum; a band called string cheese incident is playing there.  don't dress like a narc, and casually walk around the area with your ears open.  you will probably find some shrooms.  google image search what dried cubes look like, so you know you aren't getting ripped, but you will most likely find what you are looking for.  bring them here for ID if you need to be sure, it is easy to ID dried cubes.

hunting is hit or miss, it took me a year before i found my first active, but then again, I don't live on a horse farm.  but still, i think the only horse dung shrooms you may find are cincts, and you will need a lot to trip.

Cultivating is also a great options, but you will have to wait a couple months before you have anything, if it even turns out.  my first grow was a complete loss, but my second did turn out a couple of ounces, and now I can dial up 6+ ozs each go-round....  but i knew very well that I loved shrooms before putting in all that time and effort (and significant risk).

so my advise: go buy some shrooms from a hippy, see if you like 'em, and then contemplate next steps.
