Lembas bread
    #2233981 - 01/10/04 09:38 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

Ok, Lembas bread was from Middle earth and was made by the elves.

Its really nice flat bread. A have too.

Here :

3 eggs
1 cup honey (preferably wild honey)
1 tablespoon grated fresh nutmeg
2 tablespoon of orange juice
4 tablespoons of grated almonds
1 teaspoon of hempseed oil
1/4 cup fresh melted butter
2-1/4 cups semolina flour
1/2 teaspoon (sea) salt

edit : I made a better recipe tonight. I made a few changes.

I forgot to say that you have to make it in a griddle.

I don't know..those ingredients all look pretty nutritious to me. almonds, honey, semolina, hemp oil.. all life sustaining things. I'm sure it would make you a lot stronger then eating nothing.. which is what its purpose is in the books. I think with a little tweaking and a few modifications it could be a complete bread just like in the books. I think adding a chopped or pulped fruit of some kind would be good, or adding a few grains and minerals that escapes my thought at the moment.

edit: figs, oats, dates, and such.. would make a nice addition to this bread.

I think I might add hemp seeds next. As the fruit of Mallron, I think pure orange juice would do great.

Hemp seeds might have been the special nut that it always talk about in Lembas bread.

I already did it with one table spoon of hempseed oil and it was awesome.

Lemabs bread will make you full very quick. Not quite one bite, but nonetheless .

(ps. They are very tasty, get the least pasteurized honey you can get. Like you can still see little bits of honey comb.)

Use most primal ingredients as possible.

A griddle iron is worth buying to make Lembas. A griddle iron has two sides of heat, like a waffle iron.

I was amazed how good Lembas were, the Elvish people must of ate good 24/7.

Its soooo easy to make I _highly_ recommend it .

Hempseed oil can be bought in health food stores in gel capsules. I used the brand "Hempola".

BTW I think I am also going to use hemp flour in a couple weeks. Ill update. But not before I experiement with hemp seed in Lembas.

How would you go about extracting it yourself from pot seeds?

I bought them in capsules from a health food store. I dont know how they made the seeds into oil. But makes it alot better if you put 3 capsules of hempseed oil in the mixture. That recipe is %100 perfected, so anyone can have a chance to eat Lembas . This recipe turned out like in the book. Honey golden inside, sweet like golden Lembas, a slight nutty hint. With the hempseed oil just make everything more rich.

That made me think "why couldnt the nut in Lembas be hemp seeds". Sounds about right. They did use hemp for making rope and such. So why not use the wild hemp seeds you can buy at health or pet food stores. Grated ofcoarse. Put as much hemp seeds as nutmeg in the recipe.

haha if you ate like 3-4 lembas breads you would get nutmeg-high, assuming the heat doesn't affect their potency.

But a nutmeg high isn't worth the effort, considering saffrole taking a shot at your liver.

Heat will null the nutmeg. I just use one table spoon per recipe of nutmeg.

That recipe can make two batches of Lembas. So you can hardly even taste nutmeg in the Lembas, just adds texture. Its treated like a spice.

You should be able to buy bottled hemp seed oil, my mum had some a while back, much better for you than most oils too.

It may not be wise to use petshop hemp as it is now treated to stop people growing the seed, something that stops seed growing probably isn't a good idea for a recipe.

I gotta make me some of this bread, is there anyway to make a ghetto griddle iron?

You can buy griddle irons cheap if you know the right places. Go to a pawn shop.

Ill make sure I get hemp seeds for food. Instead of pet store ones.
