New location issues

HI everyone. I'm a new member here. I have been using the PF teck for a while now working with B+ cubes .I moved a year ago. Ever since I moved I have had slow colonization and contamination problems. Here's what I got goin. Pint jars (brf/Verm 1/3-2/3 ratio) with aluminum foil and outer canning ring.pressure cooked at 15psi. "Incubator" is a refrigerator with heat pads on a thermostat for controll (stays between 70°f and 80°f). Fruiting in a chamber very similar to a shotgun chamber with moisten perlite. With the teck I've been using the brf jars can't get FAE while incubation because they r sealed with the foil. And the cakes are getting green mold during fruiting "probably because my chamber doesn't have enough holes". 4 weeks into colonization 10 jars are between 25% and 50% colonized. Is there any way to speed it up? Anyone see anything that I'm not doin? I really want to get these down so I can move on to other varieties of mushrooms and expand my mycology experience.

If you have a dry verm layer on the jars, which you should ideally, then you can take the foil off. A lid with holes and dry verm under it is all the filter\barrier you require.
If your cakes are getting green mold then its likely they may not be fully colonized before you are birthing? Otherwise are you sure it is green and not blue bruising due to them being too dry? Whats your chamber like? You say similar to a sgfc? Why not follow the tek and me a real one? I'd get rid of the heat pads too, a temp between 65-72f is fine, towards 80 you are more likely to contam.

Thanks. I am casting with dry verm.about a 1/4 inch. I was nervous about relying on it to keep out contamination with so little colonization. And for the fruiting chamber. I had made it before I was a member. I just recently read the tec.

Edit the vendor name out of your post. Before a mod comes along and GE is probably your problem with slow colonization how do you inoculate them? Thru the tin foil? Also the incubator "fridge" is unessacary and may also be causing you problems. I also used that vendor and I received several bad syringes from them which grew green/black mould but they did send me replacements free all I had to pay was shipping so maybe give there customer service an email if you think it was your inoculate one other question are you working in a SAB for your innoculations

I have a feeling that a lack of FAE is the cause of my issues. What was throwing me off was that I'm using all the same equipment and tec just the location changed. It very well could be a coincidence.

Good lookin out. Thanks. GE? (Gas exchange. Got it) Inculcated through foil in a still air room. Thinking about glove bags but never used them. I have the proper HEPA filter, should I build a flow hood? The "fridge idea" came about so that I can have them in my garage without taking space in the house. The new house is still small so I thought it would be nice to continue its use.

Maybe you messed up the moisture levels while making the brf/verm mix.
I know when I put too much or too little water in the brf/verm mix, i get slow growth.
Also, some strains are just slow to grow, likely from the MS syringe.

If your inoculating thru the foil then you should be getting GE thru the needle holes unless you cover them in tape afterwards which isnt recommended. Your using a dry verm layer on top right? If not you should because it acts as a filter which allows you to use the inoculation holes for GE

Thanks guys. LogicaL Chaos. My mix does look a little wet. I will keep a closer eye on the next go. Telherface. I did put tape over the holes. I just removed the tape so that they can breath.
