Pf tek timing ?

My plan is to do the standard pf tek. I'm new to growing mushrooms so my question is elementary. Sorry. But I was thinking about inoculating my jars on a Saturday. Than I'll be on vacation for 7 days. I will be able to check on them Monday night. So do you guys see any problem in that ? Like is there was a contaminated jar would that effect the jars near it ?

If a jar could catch a contamination from the jar next to it. It would also catch contamination from the air itself...

You'll be fine, you could expect to see some mycelial growth from spores at that point, although MS could take a little while longer to germinate.
As long as you have a dry verm barrier in place above the brf mix, you don't have to worry about contams getting in, even if there was a contaminated cake right next to it!

Well said Psilo.
Also, if one of your jars did infected, it would take more than a week to see it (typically).
Jars are pretty safe from infections with the lid and dry verm layer.

Second question. I read how the ms syringe is a crap shoot for potency. Is this definetly true.? I mean even week shrooms would be fine because I assume just eat more. Also what exactly is going to be different. Would it be each cake ? Or would all the cakes provide consistency from a single syringe ? I'm looking forward to my first mushroom experience but reading all the info on these boards is over whelming sometimes . I want to start with a low dose. The only trip I have had to date was on salvia and that was way beyond where i needed to be .

when you grow from MS each mushroom on the cake can have differing potency. each cake can have 100s or more strains.

What bodhisatta said.
When you grow with MS (multispore), you have 100's of different strains, some are super potent and some are super weak. But the majority are medium potency.
Typically, the strains that are medium potency win as they are more common statistically than the super potent/bunk strains.
Occasionally, a super potent or bunk strain will grow and you get either really strong fruits or barely active fruits.
Its rare, but does happen.
If you want more consistent potency, you need to get into agar work. But thats a whole 'nother world of growing. I would recommend sticking to the basics for now.

you can clone without agar but it's much easier to just pour some plates and use them.

Clone without agar?
Interesting
Do you put a half-sliced fruit on top a bed of grains perhaps?

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I get it. I'm going to definetly just stick to the pf tek for now. I'm going to follow the let's grow mushrooms video to the tee . Only thing I'm skipping is the Ty vek sleeves. Once I get the hang of the pf tek where do u recommend I go from there? Should I buy a book/ manual ?
