Technically 'Somniferum' is the "Strain" - 'Papaver' is the "Species"
If I understand you correctly, I think you mean the Variety of Somniferum?? - They are 'Album' (Galania) (I hope that 'Variety' is the correct term.)
I could be wrong, though. 'Album/Nigum', etc COULD fall under the 'Hybrid', or possibly 'Sub-Strain' or 'Sub-Species' Category)
But am Sure about them being 'Album' (Galania)

I think you mean Papaver is the genus, and somniferum is the species 'Strain' would then go after that ie; 'var. paeoniflorum'.

Correct. - and Thank you!! But Since we're basically only talking about "the opium Poppy" in particular (P. Somniferum), plus the fact that I was attempting to answer someone who asked: "What Strain do they use?"
I was trying to find a way to simplify, and divide the Genetics in a way that would make sense to someone who asked about the "Strain".
Because in the Poppy kingdom, actually, there is no such thing as "Strains" - just "Species" and then different Sects. and Varieties of those Species. (hence the 'var. paeoniflorum') you mentioned.
Make sense?
That's why I went onto to ramble about 'Hybrids', 'Sub-Strain' & 'Sub-Species' etc, cuz there's so much Scientific Slang out there it's crazy!!
But thank you for catching that. And if you know where Terms such as Album and Nigrum should be categorized, any help would be appreciated.

I searched them on google, as I'm not familiar with them personally. They appear to both be synonyms for P. somniferum but a few links came up as varieties. Google is not a reliable source .

Ahh I see.
Just shows what I know about the technical terms of plants
I gotta look around for places that carry seeds or pods of that strain.

Oh, sorry. Check it on Wiki (below). You'll kinda get an idea of what I mean.
It's broken down by Kingdom at least: wikipedia.org/wiki/Papaver
