Fugitive drug lord 'El Chapo' injured while evading Mexican authorities http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/17/americas/mexico-el-chapo-injured/index.html By Faith Karimi, CNN Updated 1:01 AM ET, Sat October 17, 2015
(CNN) Fugitive drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman suffered injuries while trying to escape as authorities closed in on him, Mexican officials said.
Guzman broke out of prison through an underground tunnel in July, and has been on the run since then.
In a statement Friday, officials said intelligence pointed them to focus on northeast Mexico.
Mexican officials said they launched an operation in the area, prompting the kingpin to make a hurried escape that left him with injuries on his face and one leg.
Authorities did not provide specifics on the date and exact location of the operation, or how he got injured.
"It is important to note that these injuries were not the result of a direct confrontation," the statement said.
Down a hole:
Mexico's most notorious drug lord stepped into a shower in July. He slipped through a hole in the shower stall and into a tunnel that led out of the maximum-security Altiplano Federal Prison, authorities said then.
The opening connected to a vertical passageway that was outfitted with a ladder and led to another tunnel that had tracks for a modified motorcycle.
It's unclear how or where Guzman went, but authorities have indicated that at some point during his escape, a pilot flew him farther from the prison.
"El Chapo," whose nickname means "short" in Spanish, seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Pilot arrested:
While the notorious drug lord got a taste of freedom, those suspected of helping him escape were in custody.
A pilot accused of playing a role in his escape was arrested this month, the nation's attorney general said.
An additional 34 people have been arrested in connection with the July 11 escape.
Authorities have not said whether any of the suspects provided them with information to help track Guzman.
Not his first escape:
Mexico came under fire following the prison break for its inability to handle high-profile criminals, with critics pointing to corruption and the power wielded by drug cartels in the country.
Guzman's incident was not his first escape from prison.
He broke out of a maximum-security prison in 2001 while reportedly hiding in a laundry cart. Authorities arrested him in February last year -- after 13 years on the lam.
Then he escaped again in July this year.
Millions of dollars for his capture:
The U.S. announced a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to his arrest. Mexico has offered $3.8 million.
Guzman is charged with drug trafficking and related crimes in several U.S. federal courts, including Arizona, California, Texas, Illinois, New York and Florida.
(sorry for the sentence lay out copy and paste did that)

El Chapo is a product of our environment, blame your politician's and the drug war. George bush has killed more innocent civilians than EL Chapo ever will.

Y'all sound fairly ignorant as to the real details of the Mexican drug war/cartel scene. Do some research, and I believe you will not think he's "the man". Regardless of how fucked the US, and its policies are.

How does he kill "innocent" people? Does he personally go around the street popping random's heads?
The only people getting killed are people involved with gangs, snitches, etc., though I'm sure there is some attrition. You know who's killed even more innocents? The U.S. Military.
Does anyone have proof he's killed innocent civs? Or did you just hear that on the news? You guys need to look a little deeper. This guy is supposedly the enemy of the state, of course there's gonna be propaganda.

exactly they kill as much as we do over here it's just they're a little poorer and they kill you if you use drugs, use other peoples drugs or snitch
their goverment is the one behind it all they're the ones that disrupt cartels while give immunity to others they're the ones that keep people poor while sucking out the money they're the ones that keep guns out of the working class peoples hands if you go to a lot of those hell holes the only job for most people there is selling drugs
but the people that have it good will always say it's the druggies bringing everyone down, rigging the election etc..

You're right Losfreddy. Still, I would advise you to never get between Chapo and something, anything he wants. Because, you will change your mind in a hurry--provided you can do it in the 2 seconds you will have before he blows you down.
