Gymnopilus?
    #22389770 - 10/16/15 06:23 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Habitat in heavily wooded, moist soil area. Found on rotting tree parts.
Gills are brown/orange thick, cap is smooth (slightly wrinkled, sun was on them) rust colored/ convex, spore print is orange. Doesnt smell bad.

Gymnopilus seems correct, to be on the safe side uou should post a photo of the spore prints. Also, at the base of the stems where it fades to white...do you notice any blue bruising?

I would seriously question those being gyms. I think OP had them in another post.
Those are lacking very key gym characteristics + proper pics and I.d. Info

More than anything, I'm just trying to learn and become an avid hunter of all species. I don't care if they are actives, I just want to properly identify them and that's the closet I could find.

Yea I'm starting to question it too. Do they smell "good"? Do they have a bitter taste if you lick one? Do you see any blueing or greening around the base? What color is the spore print?

There aren't many mushrooms that look like gyms that are bright ass yellow like that, but approach with some caution.

I'm not 100% sold on these being Gyms, but I disagree that they are lacking the characteristics. Can you explain why you feel so strongly they aren't? What specifically do you mean?

You'll need to leave those to print for longer, takes usually about twelve hours and you should have some decent prints. Take the photos of them in better lighting and refrain from eating them.

Yeah I had the flash on for that picture. Haha the spore print is dark. I have a ton of them where I went hunting so I just wanted to know what they were. The gills seemed like Gyms to me but once again, I am novice. I did question the stem not turning blue, it's very fibrous.

This is what color your spores should be, and the spore print should be HEAVY with spores. Gyms produce ALOT of spores.

You can see the color on my finger, I wiped my finger on a mature Gym Luteus

Oh wow! I had some powdery feeling orange residue come off when I brushed my thumb against the gills. It kind of looked like if you touched a stargazer lily orange stem! But nothing as significant as yours.

I believe it is this one if any. Due to the spore print coming off rusty brown orange as well as lack of a veil. Edges darkened when I squeezed them, but I did squeeze fairly hard haha
