aeternum pressure cooker help

Hey guys, I got aeternum pressure cooker here. I failed to sterilize the jars yesterday - all the water got evaporated and I didnt put anything at the bottom, so the grain burned as well. Any suggestions of how much water should I put and what to put at the bottom (i am thinking about towel)? Thanks

A towel will work. Put 2"-3" of water in before loading your jars, which obviously will raise the water level

I've put 2" yesterday, and it evaporated, i didnt have towel, so jars broke, rye spilled and consumed more water. If I put towel, the jars will exceed a little bit the MAX level. I thinks its not a problem.

How many quarts is your pc? In my 41 quart pc (AA941) I put about 2 1/2 gallons of water in. The jars almost begin to float, but not quite. When the cycle is done I'm left with a quart or less of water.

I got a small aeternum pc but I just bought a presto online today (pricey as hell with shipping).
I havent been able to fully colonise a single grain jar with aeternum pcing.(most dont colonise at all, some colonise maybe up to 5-10% and only one got to 40ish% before stalling) Hopefully it is the problem if not I just spent a shitload of money on nothing.

As long as it can get to 15 psi it's good. Just put enough water in until your jars just barely start to float. Run a cycle. When you're done, measure the water left over and then you'll get an idea for how much is the correct amount.

Not all reach 15 psi. I suspect mine doesn't cos its old and I can't find any kind of specs for it.
Also aeternum is italian and I heard that most european pc's only reach 12-13 psi ( anyone know how to confirm/ discredit this). although I think its true because Id imagine if I was doing something else wrong at least one grain jar would have colonised. Plus brf cakes made with it are colonising no problem

Ok folks, I've read the manual, I still dont get it. Probably cuz english is not my 1st language. I turn the heat all the way up till the things starts making noise, then I turn it to low, and wait 1:30h. Is that it?

Yes. But does it say what psi it reachrs? Everything hinges on 15 psi. If it doesnt reach 15 then you have to increase cooking time which for me always result in burst grains especially millet. Mycelium never grows when my grains burst.

Doesnt indicate any psi... nowhere... So i will run it on max heat for like 5-6min after the noise starts, and then ill turn on low. I would buy a better PC, but Im broke now

The problem with these kind of pcs is its made for cooking food not sterilise grains. So the makers dont really care about reaching 15 psi. I would try to increase cooking time and see if your grains burst. If they dont you can sterilise grains no problem.

Woah, I just run a AA 915 and 921.
Both I put it up 1.5" still have a lot of water after 90 mins at 15 psi.
I thought that water wouldnt exceed 212F and they should be elevated out of the water. Course I guess if its bellow long enough it would be ok.
Is it just that some PC's evaporate water faster?
Mine retain 15 PSI while rocking the weight once every ten seconds or less.

You and me both but I just cant take not being able to do something so fundamentally easy. Sure grains are tricky but pretty straightforward. Hopefully my new pc arrives soon.
Yes you put it on high heat till it releases steam then lower the heat a bit so it only releases steam slowly but all the time. With aeternum I know its at max pressure when the weight lifts slightly that it rotates. Its like its on the brink of releasing pressure but it never does. If you keep it on high heat it will just build pressure and release it quickly which is not as good as the method above

Depends on the size of the cooker I guess. Mine is pretty small so I fill it maybe halfway and when I finish a 2 hr cook its almost empty

No noise but the silent one???
Crank up the heat until it rattles. Then back it up or crank it up until it rattles a few times per minute. When you get it stabilized hold the temperature steady there for 90 minutes.

Op, try turning down the heat. You shouldn't be losing that much. You can use a towel for the bottom but they do not readily pass bubbles? Maybe modify a baking cooling rack.
Azur. You are either cooking to hot or your jiggler isn't sealing. The pc should barely hiss. You should upgrade your pc to a sterilizer. You will save money of your power/gas bill and save a lot of water.

Yea seals pretty good cos when it finishes I drop the pressure by holding valve open with a fork. Takes quite a long time to release all the steam considering it only holds 1 pint jar or 5 half pints
