Is this casing ready to initiate pinning??
    #22385148 - 10/15/15 07:26 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hi all! First time doing a casing, I cant tell if this is ready or not to initiate pinning..with cakes I've already waited for the entire thing to be colonized. The strain is Mazatapec P.C.

Any help would be great! Thanks!

I think I see knots or primordia (on my phone, sorry).

If your tray is buried in the perlite maybe change that. Level off the perlite, and put the tray on a couple jar rings to keep it from blocking airflow through the perlite.

It's not buried in the perlite, just looks like it at that angle. The tray is sitting on top of it.  I'll put some tops underneath though--thanks!!

Oh yeah, it done been ready.  Generally you want to fruit when you see fibers poking through a good portion of the casing.  That's almost fully colonized.

Looks a bit odd, probably had a lot of condensation falling on it from the saran wrap/foil.

Good luck.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister.  I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave.  I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent.
Triggered yet?

Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."

No, this does not look right...

I don't see any casing layer at all, just looks like coir/verm in a brownie pan.  Granted, CVG casing layers can colonize over pretty easily and will look just like that but... I'm not sure that's what happened here.  Either way it's gonna pin so I guess it doesn't matter.

Looked like cased grains/cake to me. I just assumed though.

Looks like it has that solid matting look when it needs to have a slight misting
