Ive had it turned on for years, and the whole time i never bothered to look into what it was, i never needed it to begin with, ive always had just my one desktop. I go to turn it off and it wont let me, and of course every link i read leads me another link and another step and another and another. Head ache is returning. I appreciate the time people take to post how to guides, but every single guide leads to more guides. Shit makes me cranky, why cant windows just do what i tell it to, why does it always end up being hours or research and headache on every little thing i want to do. You would think id learn by now and get a mac.

Right click on the network icon in the icon tray and then select "Open Network and Sharing Center". Under "View your active networks", click "Home Network", and switch it to Public Network, and your computer will quick sharing data.

When you apply public settings, your computer uses more defenses, not less. Also, it turns off homegroup, because nobody wants their data being breached at Starbucks..
