I love notice for things,,, but one year my girl did a surprise party, I actually let her blind-fold me until we got there and she walked me in, about 100 people at my old stomping grounds. It really made me feel appreciated and I love every person and her for doing this.

dude, I used to be exactly like you. to the T. walked out of a party before.
but then I realized how selfish it was of me to be a jerk to people who really loved me, and wanted to do something nice for me.

I usually end up with terrible weather and terrible luck on my birthdays so it doesn't help. I just hate celebrating it in general.
This sorta happened to me I think around that time, only I think one kid showed up, someone I didn't really know had to witness it at a roller rink where I think I sat on the side and watched the whole time because I was so self-conscious and uncoordinated. Inside I am still that chubby, confused, alienated 10 year old, so no I don't like surprises.

now that i am reminded, i had one friend who showed up to one of my bdays once, except it wasnt really a party, nor do i think i invited anyone..
my parents asked me what i wanted for my bday and i told them if i could rent a bouncy house all to myself, they're like "ok sure". so there i was bouncing away in our front yard without a care in the world and then like a friend shows up out of the blue, i invited him into the bouncy house and we bounced around for a while, ate some cake or wutever i think i was, then he thanked me and went home. cool kid now that i think about it.
perhaps worse than surprises, are expectations..

I like surprises. Keeps life interested. Planning tends to rise expectations too high and usually never seems actually go as planned.
