I have a BROWN thumb - Salvia Divinorum

Hello all,
So I recently purchased 3 Salvia Divinorum cuttings, maybe a month or two ago. They struggled a little at first but then started to grow like crazy. That is, until their leaves started browning an unusually large amount. I though perhaps it was stagnant air so I totally redid their growing area with a humidifier and everything so they wouldn't be in cramped corners under small humidity chambers. This still didn't stop it. I thought, perhaps it is the overpowering AZ sunlight they get a few hours each afternoon that is drying them out. Changing their lighting didn't help either. By this time, the weakest of the pack was gone. Finally, I realized perhaps chlorinated water was the source, and only used filtered water. Come today, all three of the plants are dead.
I am incredibly frustrated and flustered and upset. I was so excited to grow these magical plants and hopefully propagate their cuttings until the end of my days, but their lives were all cut short despite me trying to do everything possible to keep them alive.
This is where I need you guys. I know it may be annoying because posts like this already do exist, and I am sorry if what I am asking has already been asked 1000s of times. I have googled it a million times and I just can't seem to get anything right with these plants. So, if someone would be so kind, could you please respond to this with a personally written description about how to go about growing Salvia Divinorum. I want to know everything from what you put in the soil and how much you put, how often you water the plants, how to know when they need water or when they have too much, what humidity to keep them at, how much sunlight they should get (direct and indirect) to keep them happy, how to save them from browning leaves, and literally any other information you find relevant.
I REALLY appreciate this. Thanks so much, and hopefully when I am feeling up to it again I can successfully propagate some for myself successfully.

Ha, I should have seen that butt joke coming.
Thanks for the link, I will take some notes from there but is there anybody that has personal experience and insight to provide me?

Were you over watering them? I'm currently dealing with a similar situation, but I think I found the answer to it(dust/ash on the old leaves). The leaves are extremely spotty on the older leaves.

I do not believe I was over watering them, however it is a certain possibility as I am far from being an expert at this. I watered them no more than once a week, and the pots they were in were not very large at all so the soil would become relatively dry by the end of that period, especially since it is very arid where I am in AZ.
