Is coffee ultimately good or bad for you?

Hello. I saw on this website that talked about how and what to eat for a healthy liver. And it mentioned that stuff like caffeine and alcohol are "toxins" for one's liver and should be avoided. However, on this other intellectually oriented website (the wisegeek, to be exact), they said that drinking coffee can actually help some people live longer. So I think that maybe caffeine isn't all bad.
Personally I am a big fan of coffee. Before I would drink normally one cup a day, and sometimes more. But ever since I learned that coffee is bad for one's liver, I have been abstaining from it. I would like to learn the coffee habits of shroomery and whether coffee is ultimately good or bad.
Thanks.

I am on my 3rd for today, can't live without it. Started taking swigs from moms cup when I was in 1st grade, got into drinking it on the regular in high school, have been a full blown caffeine fiend since then.

Probably good for you in moderation and bad for you if overused.

I think the only negative thing about it is the caffeine. But I also have no idea what I'm talking about. Like moderation is the key

There is no such thing as a drug that's good for you. By nature a drug disturbs homeostasis which is the default state for healthy metabolic function. The major difference in perceived health benefit comes from your control group. If your control group eats a typical western diet void of anti-oxidant containing fruits and veggies, then coffee offers some relative benefit. If your control group are hunter gatherers eating diverse plants, wild game, and adhering to natural biorhythms then the effect of coffee would be relatively detrimental to health. I don't know much about the specifics of coffee other than it likely can lead to some cortisol resistance and disturb natural biorythms which could alter healthy immune function.
So you have to put it in that sort of perspective. Coffee is certainly not the worst thing for you, but it's not "harmless" in an absolute sense.

I've actually read that decaf was potentially worse, though I can't recall why

i was at starbucks the other day, and suddenly realized everyone there was pretty much a drug addict, like they were just standing there like zombies as if they were waiting to get their fix.
coffee is a drug, but it's probably one of the better ones..
and i'll be damned if imma let a coffee user preach to me about my drug use
