Why not just soak and rinse them like everyone else does?

you would need to get them sterilized then also, which places do sell.
the prob is once they get wet they do not last very long, a couple of days at most before super yucky.

Lol maybe I'm behind the times !I still have to wash the husks off of them so I cant see how soaking and just rinsing them will take the husks off when it takes me 25mins of intense scrubbing ..does letting just soak over night do the majic or what? .I would amagine if I was using spawn bags I could just hydrate them. Maybe switching to bags is the best bet .I am looking for a local supplier for the bags.Quote:

Ya I thought maybe I could find em already de-husked and re-dryed I'm having a hard enough time finding a myco supplier close by so hydrated grains could be an issue like you mentioned .

Try oats. No soaking... no rinsing, just boil. Any feed store has them. Easy breezy.

I dislike WBS personally. The little grains are a mess and since they aren't uniform in color or size they are difficult to identify contaminants through.

Have you considered doing them with the hulls on? Granted I don't do rye, but we do oats with hulls intact, and their hulls are thick AF.

I've never seen seen rye with hulls before... I used rye for a few years, didn't find it to be particularly special, hopped on the oat train as soon as I saws it comin 'round the bend.
I don't wash oats or rye, or even my WBS too much, though. The WBS I have is also pretty clean to start with.

Huh I'll have to look into oats more that sounds like a good idea.there's lots of feed stores around so shouldn't be hard to find .what should I be saying I'm using them for in case they ask ?Quote:

Oh I have used grains without washing them good enough before and the husks act like glue when trying to shake you spawn jars up.Quote:

I'm not sure if were talking about the same thing just with 2 different words .hulls .husks but I find with out washing the husk on the grains are like glue in the jars making it difficult to shake up jars

You can tell them whatever the hell you want to tell them, but personally I have never been asked any questions. You are walking into a feed store asking for a 50# bag of whole oats. They will assume it is to feed a large animal. If you want to make up some backstory... by all means. If someone were to ask me I would probably tell him or her to fuck off, give the "ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS, I'M BUYING A BAG OF FEED!!" stare, or if the salesclerk were worth my time, I would just be honest and tell him I was cultivating mushrooms. He needn't know the type.

You know what's 10x better than that?
FUCK a shroomery link fucked it up.
"I'm feeling lucky" on the search phrase "Muda Oats" would take you right to the producers pride page for the 50 lb bag. FUCK THAT WAS AWESOME before somebody fucked it.
At one point I lgmtfy'd that to somebody and it worked, it was glorious.
And also, if I'm paying with cash, I'd just tell them the truth and smile.

If you know how google's "I'm feeling lucky" works and you know about this page: http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/producers-pride-oats-50-lb Then it should make sense. Otherwise it might not.
Check the reviews if you're not sure.
