My one buddy was driving for a delivery company (furniture, cabinets etc.) and he was arguing with his co worker who was in the passenger seat.
Not paying attention, he didn't realize that the truck was taller than the height of the underpass and just slams into it going like 45mph and it ripped the top half of the truck off.
They wanted him to take a drug test for insurance purposes and he had a check waiting for him there for over $400, but he just never went back lol.
He just said fuck it.
Nothing ever happened though.

I don't give people drug tests when I hire them, because I think it's real bullshit. I only conduct background checks because I'm required
Personally I've never had to take a drug test for a job, but I was in the education field so that could be different these days.

I just got done with 3 years of strict random observed drug tests. Been done with them for a couple weeks and still haven't smoked weed. I'm programmed now to think it will result in bad bad things.

Fuck drug tests
They are an invasion of privacy and a violation of our rights as human beings
In some cases they are necessary though like if you're working a dangerous job you should really be sober
But for the most part they're just a way for the establishment to bring the common man down

I've only ever come across one job that required a piss test and that was through an agency.
I sent them my CV that ticked all the boxes that they required for the job. Got a phone call from them the next day, and, after expanding on my work experience, for ~20 minutes that had them salivating to get me up to their office to sign on, I asked "just one thing, what's this urine sample thing all about?" and after wasting another five minutes of their time told them, "I'm a fucking Englishman and I won't willingly have some cunt rip the literal piss outta me, shove your fucking job up your fucking arsehole." Miss the days when you could slam the phone down on fuckers.

That's the only place in Canada I've really heard of it. Canadian human rights law restricts drug testing quite a bit, but I guess when the ruling party is propped up with oil money then the oil business can get away with more. Typically there is a requirement that sobriety be a bona fide requirement for doing the job for e.g. safety reasons, which I'm sure oil work satisfies, but even then, there normally needs to be evidence that that particular employee is or has been impaired at work.

nancy reagan had nothing to do with this shit, this was insurance companies telling employers that they get huge breaks on insurance rates if they drug test employees. of course they jacked up all the rates before this so they could cut those rates to lower amounts... keep in mind, this is the same sort of thing that obama ushered in with obamacare and his enormous support of the insurance industrial complex

All of this is very true. Fort Mac became a major hub for crack cocaine and cocaine use because on your days off (a lot of work in the oil patch is 14 on 7 off or 20 on 7 off) you can use crack or cocaine for 4-5 days and be clean for when you go back to work.
I'm currently working to get out the oil patch so I can make a bit better money. It's the first time I've ever had to do a urine test. I worked at a big industrial job (aluminum smelter rebuild) in BC last year, but they did a swab test which was much more reasonable. The mouth swab test really only goes back a couple days and actually can detect cocaine and crack longer in some cases than THC.
I had to quit smoking weed over 60 days ago for the urine testing and I only recently started to pass my home tests (in the last 2 weeks). It's ridiculous and I understand the whole not being impaired at work especially because my job can be dangerous, but this totally violates rights.
I literally can't smoke a joint a week before and go to work a week later, like somehow I'll be impaired still, yet I can drink myself nearly to death one day and come in hung over as fuck and get away with it. I literally had to quit and haven't been able to get a decent job for 60 days.
Only reason I want to go to the oil patch is because it pays really well and I work a ton of overtime. Whoever said that only shitty paying jobs test is completely mistaken, or it's different here in Canada.
I can make upwards and even over 150,000$ year working the oil patch or 50,000-100,000 in my home province where I don't have to do drug test. For me quitting marijuana for a few months or a year is worth the extra money

Nancy Reagan was very much a figurehead of popularizing the concept of drug use being a very dangerous element of society that must be stopped at all costs, regardless of personal liberty.
