Holy CRAP. There's got to be 40 pounds of mushrooms on this one log!! I took a bunch of pix, but have to run to work. No time right now. Here's an example. This bouquet is about 3 FEET long...and there were five bunches like this on the log, with lots of smaller choice shrooms, of which I took about a pound or two.

Was actually hoping to find some Hen of the Woods when I stumbled on these. Time then ran out. Had to head back home, shower, shave and go to work (dag-nabbit!)
Will go back tomorrow am at first light and see what else I can find.

I found some dried up hen of the woods from last year I am hoping they will pop this year also. Anyone else feel like the season was very slow to change even now it is really warm.

Thanks, guys! I'm becoming a first-class forager. There's literally 30 or so pounds of mushrooms on that one log. I'm thinking this new forest location (close to water) has a shit-ton of edibles in it. These were a mere 7 minutes walk into the woods. I had the good sense to mark the spot with my GPS so I can return with ease.
Are these Chicken of the Woods marketable to restaurants??? I brought a big bouquet of them to one of my geeky work colleagues whose S/O is a vegetarian. She went bonkers! I sent a pix from my phone to my wife and told her not to tell anyone the location (she knew where I was headed this morning) under penalty of death!

Awesome find!

If you have the right kind of restaurant(s) in your area, and if you do the leg work, and if you can find enough mushrooms, in the right condition, on the right day of the week, and if you can deliver them when the chefs want them........ They might be.
I've sold chicken of the woods to restaurants before. It was A LOT of work. And I had a hard time forming a good business relationship with anyone due to the super unpredictable nature of wild fungi. But I did have a few days where a morning hike and an afternoon of visiting restaurants got me a few hundred bucks!
Also keep in mind that depending on local/state laws you (or the mushroom) may need some sort of certification (not just an ID post on the shroomery).

^^^ Wow...what a great answer, foragedfungus - thank you! As usual, certain aspects of some undertakings make them utterly impractical. A few hundred bucks is not enough to matter to my life. I REALLY just wanted to share the joy and the bounty with as many folks as possible, and give myself a reason to go back to the forest site as the situation warranted.
It is such an amazing thing to stumble upon such bounty. When I get home I'll post more pix of that same log if any of them turned out decently. My hands were shaking I was so excited!
I already gave you a +5 shroomery rating. If I could, I'd give you another 5!

You might also consider farm markets as a venue for sale. Rather than doing the legwork to find a buyer, let the buyers come to you. If you can find a market that allows you to rent a space on a per-day basis (as opposed to paying up front at the start of the season), you can just go when your foraging proves fruitful. (You may need certification/license of some sort, that will vary on a state or local basis.) I have a farm market stand that I sell home-grown veggies at (more for fun than for profit) on Saturdays, but when my foraging yields a big flush of something, I bag some mushrooms up to put out on the table. People love them; it makes my table stand out from all the other veggie vendors. You can also charge full retail price for your mushrooms instead of the lower wholesale rate you'd get selling to a restaurant.
