Is this honey LC contaminated?

Hi guys.
Can an experienced grower advise me to what is happening here
Looks like we have some sort of contamination but not 100% sure.
This is a water+honey LC inoculated with GT spores on Sept 30.
Is the culture supposed to be completely pure white? This is my first time making LC.
Thanks.

lol yeah it does. so the mycelium should be shiny white and fluffy? I can't seem to find good pictures of healthy LC.

Was this lc inoculated with a spore syringe? If so, how many cc's did you inject?

Its prolly trash because you went spore->lc which is a very big gamble...but id test it anyways inoculate a jar or a plate and see what grows you never know maybe you got lucky

What I was getting at is that it looks like a lot of ungerminated spores in the middle of the network. It happens when you add too much inoculant from a spore syringe into an lc. It may be good but I would noc up one grain jar and if it's good then expand from there.

Actually I just dropped spores off a tinfoil print into the jar.
I threw in alot of spores..
So I guess the much safer route is going from spore directly to agar?

The best route is always spores->agar->whatever I only make lcs from agar wedges or 9er tek macerated tissue clones

Haha LC's are finicky. I've knocked email up with spires and got absolutely nothing. I've also used tissue from a clone and thought I had something really aggressive. Turns out I was growing a beautiful sample of cobweb.

thats more risky than spore syringe to LC dude!!
I agree with mike.

Spores>solid agar>whatever is definitely the best idea. You need the solid growth medium made with a streaking technique to separate the contaminants from the good stuff. If you go from dirty spores strait to a liquid medium, then you're growing a mix of contaminants and the desired mycelium, and the contams always win.

I've done this exact some thing before, in a cleaned and almost still room (I know not the best thing), to a bunch of LC jars.
Not all did this black thing only a couple. The ones that did grew bacteria on WBS test jars.

thank you all for the replies. I have learnt my lesson and inoculated some agar dishes with spores today

uknow i did see a tek for an alternative way to start an LC among other things:
make a syringe with sterile water, take fully colonised pf jar, inject water, shake, suck up water. you should now have a syringe with water and some myc in there. in the tek it is used to inoculate jars, but how about using that to start an LC?
also could one use a PF cake and cut a wedge from that instead of an agar plate?

Honey has proteins which will settle at the bottom, I would not use if for LCs. As you scraped a print it is more than likely contaminated.
If you insist on using honey I would boil it first, let it settle in the fridge for a day or 2 and decant it off the sediement and sterilize the now clear liquid.
I would also use very little, aim for a concentration of about 0.4% which is 1/10th what most say. This goes for all LCs, not just honey.
