Incubation Technique
    #22380859 - 10/14/15 09:05 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hello everyone. I literally just made this account on this website. I have been looking into growing P. Cubensis for quite some time and have just ordered my first spore syringe. I have been reading about PF-Tek and decided to give it a try. I have read that an incubator is a good thing to have, but I've also read that it is nearly pointless. I stumbled upon the fact that the mycelium give off their own heat as they colonize the substrate. My question is, would putting all of the jars of substrate in an insulated bin with a blanket on top be sufficient in incubating the jars, seeing as how they produce their own heat? The PF-Tek growing page says to put them in an incubator set at around 80 with a blanket over top, to keep the heat in. I figured the heat they produce trapped in there would be enough to sustain them. Thoughts?

Unless your Temps are in the mid 50'S or lower constantly then just put them on a shelf and leave them alone...no incubators, no blankets.

I like the idea of putting them in a bin covered in a blanket. might be worth doing for petri dishes

But yeah incubators are a waste of time for pf tek.

Light isn't necessary but it's beneficial to mycelium growth... putting them on a shelf where they can get ambient light regularly would be your best bet.

Do ya? You like tucking your shroomies in with a blanket at night? So kawaii!.

I'd maybe put them in a clear tote. But a shelf does just fine for me.

So, as long as I Inoculated the jars correctly, there is little chance of contamination while they sit on the shelf?

Dry verm layers rock! They keep the contams away. Just don't drop the jars. Or handle them too much. Take foil off after the PC cycle too. In fact just ditch your entire pf tek and follow this one: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15223324

This is essentially exactly what i was going to do. I probably won't have a glove box, but my room is essentially the size of a closet. I've read a lot about lysol and how people use that to sterilize their work environment before hand. Would it be okay if i did a lysol spray down, then wore latex gloves and a surgical mask? I'll turn off every electronic in the room to ensure there isn't a draft or anything.
