First grow - BRF cakes in SGFC * 1
    #22380012 - 10/14/15 06:08 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

This is my first attempt

I followed this

A friend of mine who has had success with brf cakes also helped me a bit.

These little babies are mexi-cubs.

My FC

most active cake

This cake didnt fully colonize, i scraped away the uncolonized stuff before i dunked it. It has some white fuzz popping up on top..

most of the cakes have a little light blue going on, im lead to believe its bruising.

hole in the cap?

I fan every time i [fine]mist, and [fan] 2-3 other times throughout the day.

I have a timer set with a 6500 bulb, 12 hours on/12 hours off

The temp of the fc was 66 without an extra heat source, my friend advised me to put a heat pad under the FC (which is elevated by jar ring-cap thingys)

With the heat pad turned on i was able to get the temp up to 70. With the temp at 70 the pins started to come, and grow pretty damn fast... the cake with the most pins grew two fold today alone.  When i put the heat pad under the FC i noticed a large increase in condensation on the walls/lid of the fc, is that a problem?

I look forward to input, comments, and criticism.

I'd cut down that foil to the size of the bottom of the cake. You want air flow coming up through the perlite around the sides of the cake.

And that hole in the cap is just a mutation, no big deal.

Having the temp at 66 will definitely produce some nice thick, meaty fruits. But, it may take a little bit longer to mature.

Looks great tho! :woot:

:aweyeah:  Looking good. The blue is definitely looking like bruising, probably from the cakes being dry. I'd cut back on the fanning. Mist when they look dry/damp and fan only after you mist. You're just looking to kick start evaporation not provide air exchange. Checkout this post on misting: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21595437

I found from experience that the SGFC provides so much airflow, it dried out my cakes. I believe it was the central air heating in my room at the time.

Make sure to check the perlite to see if its moist. You may need to mist your perlite daily to keep up with the drying out effect of SGFC.

:whathesaid: The last SGFC that I made, the holes were a little bit too close together ( about 1.5 inches) which is what caused my perlite and cakes to dry out.

I'm gonna try to make my next SGFC with holes at least 2 inches apart on all six sides. I'll need a functional one for my upcoming pan cyan grow :awesomenod:

Yeah, that's true. It'll be my first time working with Hpoo, but I'm pretty good at pasteurizing (thanks to Frank's tek), so no worries there.

I'm starting the spores on agar first to be sure I'm working with a clean culture. I'll also be PC'ing some oats soon to have them ready for when I want to transfer a clean wedge.

Heard the pan cyan experience is much cleaner, has a lot more visuals, and has an overall better vibe than cubes, so I'm willing to put in the extra time and effort to grow these much sought after mushrooms!! :mushroom2:

I'll be making a grow log in the next few days, I just want to see some germination on my agar plates first. :awesomenod:

I don't usually say this, ever... but I would not eat that mushroom.
