oh i just saw weight. Was it just one bag in the PC? Maybe use a larger plate next time?

I used to have the unfolding bag problem too.  I found that the binder clips you get at Staples work well, one on each side of the bag, folded accordion style.  IME, they grab tighter than clothespins and take up less space in the PC.  I haven't had one pop off yet.  Maybe double up on plates too?

Another thing I noticed is that I have better results when I turn off the heat to the PC and let it cool down slowly on a hot stove, rather than taking it off the burner and letting it cool on the counter.  I think it's the same concept as agar boiling over.  The PC cools at a rate faster than the contents inside of it, so if the PC drops to ambient pressure too quickly, the temp of the grain can be greater than 212, causing boiling inside of your bags/jars as everything equalizes.

Came home from work and put my bag in the PC. Started it up, and the damn air vent/cover lock started to leak again! So I let it cool, took it apart, which of course inflated the bag. Refolded the bag (carefully as it was hot as hell), started check the air vent/cover lock for the problem. I'm thinking the gasket is dirty and not making a seal, or the gasket is bad. Then I notice that the two pieces that it consist of on both sides of the lid are loose! So when the vent thing pops up, it still doesn't completely seal because of the gap. I tightened it back up, and it works like a charm. Man, am I glad I figured that out! I was getting pretty frustrated. I'll use the two bags that I will have sterilized to make some cold weather shiitake bags. I'll have to start another thread then .

Seem to be having some problems with my kings. Looks like they get to a certain size and start dying from the cap down. I have been misting them directly, but leaving the lid off for a couple hours in the morning and a couple hours in the evening. I'm wondering if I'm getting them too wet. Maybe no direct misting? RH in the room is about 55%. RH in FC is about 90%, but I'm wondering if misting directly and 90% is not allowing enough evaporation off their suface. Will leave the lid off while at work and then start indirect misting in morning. Will leave lid on while at work, then at night mist directly, but leave lid off till morn.

I found that my yields were low (and lots of aborts) before I was able to fruit in a 95-97 % RH environment with a desktop type fan indirectly blowing to increase evaporation. Our yields were at 20% for a while and then last week I got rid of a mesh that I'd put over the fan and the yield went straight up to 25%. I think they really dig high RH and lots of air movement

I understand the humidity part. What I'm wondering about, is the direct misting that I'm doing. Maybe not such a good idea. I also have a little space heater, but I can turn on just the fan. Maybe I'll throw that in there at night.

Hmmm.... I doubt it, I think its just lack of RH. Kings are very susceptible to bacterial blotch but your photo doesn't show anything that suggests that. I think misting alone can't replace the high RH. If you watch the mushrooms for a while after misting them you will see that their surface dries very quickly. So they are humid for a short while at the start and end of the day but the rest of the day they are dry. Casing with peat would go someway to compensate for this because it creates a high RH microclimate. (I can't remember if you're in bags or columns, obviously casing columns is a tricky one :P )

They're in bags. I'll try keeping the RH higher. Even in the SGFC I can keep it at around 85 to 95 at all times.

Have you tried leaving the bag closed with a clothespeg inbetween mistings? Obviously casing would help again in this situation...

Not sure what is going on with these. There are some healthy looking fruits but at least half look like this. The last picture is where I cut a cluster off. They seem soft and spongy.

Kings really need 95+ I run mine at 96-98%. When i mist i get the walls and door and it sticks at 100% for about three hours before all the water evaporates.

Yep, needs to be real high. Mine dropped to about 90-94 this week with a change in temperatures and I can see the difference straight away

Looks like they are being eatin up by trichoderma mold. Is there green spores any where on the back side of those bags.
