Thanks for the info! Yeah, I should go metric, but I have my moisture dialed in, and hate to mess with it. I figure 5.5 oz bran will give me 10%.

I haven't tried to fruit it yet. Might experiment, and put it in the freezer for a day, then put it in the SGFC.

I dunno about the freezer, i think the fridge would be a much better option. You don't want ice cubes you just want to trick the growth into thinking the temps dropped for fall.

I know, but I want to see what will happen. If it doesn't work, I still have 2 fruiting and 3 colonizing.

Did you lose any bags? I ended up losing most of my first batch but my supplimented and third batch unsuplimented blues I only lost 1/7. I think transferring from large to extra large bags after cooling was the source of contamination.

I only did 2 with bran. I didn't want to do a bunch and find out it wouldn't work. No problem with this one but I did another with more bran and like 40% spawn. That one has a very tiny spot of contamination. It looks like maybe penicillin. Definitely not trich. To slow and more turquoise colored. It hasn't grown in two days. So maybe the mycelium will overcome it.

Wouldn't it be 7.7% then? 4 oz/52 oz
*regarding supplementation

Absolutely! I'm still figuring out how to calculate spawn rates and such.

OK. So, I cut the top off the bag about a week ago. Left around 1-2 inches of the sides. Scratched the surface on half of it. Stuck it in my SGFC. Dropped the temp from 65 to about 58 or 60. An we have pins! The scratched side has nothing though, so I don't think that works. I'm sure the biggest factor was the temp drop. I'll tuck that little bit of knowledge away for the future !

Nice! Congrats. Would love to see some pix when you have the time. I have four bags of Black Poplar growing out on an identical (slightly richer) mixture, and have some clones of wild Chicken of the Woods and King Stropharia I'm going to treat similarly to your King Oyster grow with wheat bran supplemented wood pellets - possibly as early as this week-end.

Will get pictures up after work. I now have access to a PC so I'll probably be sterilizing from now on, but at least we know it's possible.

Alright, here you go. The first two pics are the wheat bran supplemented bag, and the last pic is a bag that I put some unbrewed coffee in with the pellets.

The ones in the last pic took I think about 5 days. I guess I wasn't paying to much attention. Seems to me that they grow fairly slow. Guess I'm used to pink oysters that almost grow while you watch them! Temps are about 64 degrees or so in there now. I am going to take the lids of the SGFCs at night for about 2 or 3 hours and maybe even a little more on weekends, to get some bigger caps.
