I lived for 20 years on meat, I was also in the best shape of my life,
when I started eating veggies and shit I started putting on weight,
I went from 135 to 160. my bloodwork at around 18 years showed normal
cholesterol and triglicerides, everything was in the normal range
except my calcium levels and it was only a little low

we can get all the nutrition we need from red meat

I agree and disagree with this. I think to do this effectively, you need to get some organ meats into you. And I don't think it is even nessacary to eat only red meat

Also, some people function better on less meat. Like me. You gotta find what works for you

And the whole saturated fat and cholesterol thing is kind of nonsense to me. I dont think it increases heart disease risk. But you do you

People don't need to eat meat to maintain solid muscle mass. Both diets are perfectly valid. I will say that a lot of people in Western countries eat *too much* meat, but there's nothing wrong with it in moderation. This has been illustrated through a variety of studies...pounds and pounds of meat a day consistently is generally a bad idea for health. 4-8oz (maybe 12ish) a day is perfectly healthy though, preferably of the leaner variety of meats.

That said, I've been a vegetarian for a half decade and am in the best shape of my life, and that's saying a lot considering I was a serious lifter back when I ate meat as well. I'm currently about 175# @ 6'0", with pretty low bf%...somewhat visible core muscles. Almost the exact same build as pre-vegetarian, and my bloodwork is perfectly normal.

Vegetarian, vegan, and omnivorous diets can all be done really well or really shittily, both with the potential to support athelete level activity. My preference is vegetarian plus seafood rarely for a variety of reasons that have nothing to do with anyone else's choices. It sometimes takes a little more thought to get adequate protein and nutrients with veg as someone who exercises rigorously a few times or more a week, but it's perfectly achievable. What really matters is being conscious of nutrition, regardless of if meat is included.

Well stated. I think everything in moderation is important.
How do you get B12? And have you had your vitamin levels tested?

Iron and B-complex are the two vitamins that I do supplement occasionally, but I eat enough dark greens and dairy to likely get enough naturally. Those are definitely the two things that vegetarians are often more deficient in, though strict vegans would struggle a lot more to get vitamin B's than people who at least still eat dairy. I believe those are tested for in regular blood work, which I've had done with no abnormal results. Eggs, cheese, and whey powder are all quite high in B-12 to the tune of 30-40% daily value per serving.

supposedly, b12 in food is better than supplements by far. If I ever were to try vegan (which I may for a month or two) I will eat oysters

Hmmm whos word will I take... Zappa's, or countless botanists including my boss... Hmmmmmm

You do realize the point of them having consciousness right? Even if it is a different form than our own.  The dumb ass hippies are hypocrites. Life consumes life and they need to get over it. No way around it.

It's okay my old mans the same way, stuck in his beliefs and ways. Still can't explain the studies where they have been shown to be conscious of their surroundings and the intent of them.

Why did they put "listen" in quotes?  Because they don't actually listen.  The PRI nonsense was already linked.  You people are nuts.

I agree with topdog, they don't have brains, so by eating shellfish like clams, oysters, and mussels, you're not contributing to animal suffering.

If bugs were widely available, I'd probably consume them more often than fish. Apparently bugs are very nutritious, and fried grasshoppers tastes like the tip of a chicken wing. You also have to consume far less bugs to consume the same amount of protein in mammals.

There's even a new protein powder called Bug Muscle: http://bugmuscle.com/

Changes occur all the time to sciences "status quo" and there will always be those who can't accept the change because it hurts the ego. The discovery either makes the individual feel smaller/less significant in their part in the universe, or B, the individual feels taken for a fool due to false information learned over said lifetime and is to stubborn to accept.

Ps. Bugs "listen" because they do not have actual ears but sense vibrations (omg that sounds just like those plants!) through holes and tiny hairs on their bodies.

You offer zero evidence to the contrary and I'm certain your life/career has had nothing to do with the study of plant life but architecture/construction am I right? If we were discussing building some yeah I'd take your word for it. But talking to you about plant physiology is the equivalent of well, me discussing trigonometry with a retarded kid.

Plus I'm 99.9 percent certain you pris and a couple others all receive compensation from the same benefactor for supporting certain beliefs and instead of  offering a good rebuttle or evidence you label it "idiotic" or "crazy".

I am surprised they even came out with this, I thought I was one of the few people in this nation crazy enough to pay to eat bugs. I wonder how much of a market there is for this stuff.

Interesting they chose arthropods though, as shrimp and crabs are actually in the same class. Probably really high in calcium among other things too.
