I haven't eaten meat since I was 13, Now it's mostly out of habit and because my wife doesn't either that I don't. But lately I've been getting the strongest urges to eat chicken wings.

I very much doubt that plants feel pain. I doubt that even fish feel pain. I doubt that most reptiles feel very much pain.

I work with animals, we use narcotics on fish and reptiles because they do feel pain. There is plenty of well supported literature to support this fact. As others have said, just google it. Plants also have a very rudimentary nervous system, but do "feel" pain and depending on the the species of the plant they respond.

but is it metaphorical pain? as in pain from a receptor's "response pattern" to stimuli? or is it like real "ouchies!" sort of pain?

Anything with a brain connected to nerves is going to feel pain.
There are humans whose nerves aren't connected to their brains. They feel no pain. Plants don't have nerves or a brain - when you cut a branch, it's like cutting human hair.
" At age 5, Isaac Brown is learning the alphabet and simple addition. He's also figuring out another vital subject: pain.
Isaac was born with a congenital insensitivity to pain, a disorder that means he almost never feels pain, even if he breaks a bone.
Because he doesn't feel injuries, Isaac's parents, Carrie and Randy Brown, are teaching him how to identify them to stay healthy.
"The toddler years were an absolute nightmare," said Isaac's mother, Carrie Brown. "He would just drop to the ground and smack his face on the table. He thought the fall was fun."
Some people with congenital insensitivity to pain have been linked to a specific genetic mutation that affects a specific sodium channel in their nerve cells. When they stub their toe, the neurons that fire to signal pain aren't able to transmit the message through this specific sodium channel and up the spinal cord to the brain. As a result, there is no pain." http://abcnews.go.com/Health/meet-toddler-feels-pain/story?id=20658484

Fruits. They are simply a vessel for the transport of seeds.
Potentially grains/seeds as well, though that is still cutting short a life-cycle.
Or just accept it and eat meat.

Well, I am currently caring for a 95 pound sulcata tortoise that had been attacked by another sulcata and I can tell you without a doubt that he feels ouchies.
As far as fish, that is hard to measure. You are equating an animal's self awareness/consciousness with their ability to feel and register pain. If we are causing pain, are we not causing pain regardless if someone can fully comprehend or register it? Have you read the short "Alien Jane" by Kelley Eskridge? It's a fictional story about a girl that cannot feel pain and our necessity to understand how something can be considered alive without it. Good read if you ever get the chance.

You'd just jump after your keys if you dropped them from the balcony on the fourth floor wouldn't you? Not feeling pain sounds dangerous.

There is a gene mutation that affects 1 in a million people causing the inability to feel pain. Back in the day these people would die long before they would reach adulthood because they couldn't identify the problem. Kids were chewing off their tongues, burning themselves so severely it wouldn't heal, etc. Crazy stuff. Imagine having to explain to a child not to touch something without being able to say "because you will get an owie that will HURT!"

But that child who does not feel physical pain would still experience emotional pain which is what in my opinion differentiates the justification for eating fish/insects vs red meat/pork/mammals. A trout or a cricket won't miss it's mom days after they die, however many mammals do grieve/form friendships/etc. Physical pain is just that, a response to keep you alive. Physical pain is a response to continue existence where emotional pain comes with the understanding of your existence. They are two very different things.

Probably a few thousand of them are confined to the random photos thread, but happy to be of service where you see me.

Remember at one point reading an interview with a grown man who developed leprosy. He talked about how he had to train himself to exert proper amounts of force on objects, otherwise he would have issues of breaking things he grasped, or continually damaging his hands and fingers by essentially bashing them away.
