Rap nowadays * 1
    #22377238 - 10/14/15 07:25 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

even tho I hate hopsin , and really like rappers like young thug and future I find this pretty hilarious  but yea never understood rap lyrics anyway French is my main language.

What you think about this ,is it true for you?  Do you think it's a shame what rap music became?

Discuss not intelligently

LOL, that's good.

But I think this applies to most music nowadays, not just rap.

Using too much electronic sound, and voice synthesizers or whatever.
Their's still good rap being made, just not on MTV...if that's still a thing.

Hopsin is such a candy ass. Always calling out people who would have nothing to do with him and doing stupid shit like this for publicity since he lacks the talent or marketing skills to get it otherwise. Regardless I think it is kind of funny. It seems like people on the internet think the song is a straight up banger which it's not, I can barely even listen to it

I'm gonna get a lot of shit for saying this, but the whole auto-tuned rap thing is really misunderstood. It can be annoying as shit, ie. Rich Homie Quan and all that other dumb shit you tend to hear on the radio, but some artists like Future and Thug really use it to their advantage. Future especially, even through the nihilism of his lyrics and the layers of artificiality you can really hear the pain and emotion in his voice. I know some people are just never going to like his music though and I accept that I'm not gonna convince any of them, but to me he's an amazing artist.

Don't really listen to a lot of rap these days. Use to be a big rap guy back in the day.

Now the only kind of hip hopish genre I listen to is electro-trap. I like Loudpvck, Bassnectar, G-Jones, and some other trap stuff here and there.

@hex_enduction ,I used to straight up hate autotune with like T-Pain . But with thugger and future it really adds to the emotion and vibe of the song. I personally love it now

@eminence yea  kinda ironic huh .but yeaI don't understand most of the lyrics, I go on rap genius from time to time tho .but yea it doesnt mean I don't like the music. I personally think this joke rap from hopsin sounds better then his real music

@janky tits yea I like that electro trap music too. When I first heard that in a edm show in 2013 I was like what!!? was like this is hella good!

I wouldn't have made a statement like that even a year ago but Future has improved immensely as an artist in 2015. Listen to DS2 and 56 Nights and you might see where I'm coming from.

As far as Hopsin goes, I have always hated him. Never cared for his whole "all rappers these days except me are garbage and I'm here to save the game" attitude or his corny ass lyrics. He is a decent rapper though I suppose.

I really don't understand why people hate on Hopsin. I don't particularly like him. But from a technical standpoint he's a very good rapper. DS2 was completely average to me, I don't really see what all the hype is personally

One reason I figure people hate on Hospin, I used to love rap myself, but the flames have since dwindled, and you can see the talent, is because he almost seems like the Sith Lord picture of starwars with the words "Let the hate flow through you".:peace: He seems so full of hate and anger, I just couldn't take it. No matter how "real" it was, which it was. Was TOO real for me. Il rather live in dreams than to get that dark.

 Fair enough. I never thought the dude was anything special but that album convinced me. I know his style is not for everyone though.

You gotta at least agree that it's fantastic production wise, no? Metro was at the top of his game on every track and he's an amazing producer regardless. Unless you're not into the Atlanta trap sound at all I don't see what's not to like.

Underground rap for the most part blows too...

Take a trip to world star hip hop and watch these unsigned artists. They are just as garbage as all the ones you hear on the radio. I'm sure there's probably a couple that are great, but pretty much all that I've seen have just been imitators of rap stars.

All flash and no substance. A lot of talk about mansions and moving coke and driving fancy cars. They see what sells and try to live that persona as much as possible. The music is always a low low priority.

lifetime hip hopper here. i think jay rock's album is good. the beats are ridiculous.

aside from that, i don't have much else for this year for rap. last year was an incredible year for music but this one has been overall lackluster for every style of music i listen to. i've been mostly listening to really old stuff (i've been on an 80's post-punk kick for a few months now).

I really like DS2. I think the hype comes from the fact that Future's last couple albums/mixtapes were some weak ass pop shit. DS2 sounds closer to some actual Future shit.

I disagree with that. Honest was on the poppy side but is still a good album IMO, but the 3 mixtapes that followed it (Monster, Beast Mode, and 56 Nights) are all fire imo. DS2 beats all of em though.

Malcolm, what other newer rappers are you into besides Hopsin? Just curious. This question extends to anyone in this thread, I'm always looking for new stuff to check out.

Haven't heard the new Jay Rock yet but will probably listen to it when I'm done studying

his live performance are turnt as hell, would love go to a show like that

I mainly listen to a lot of old stuff when it comes to rap and hip hop. Nas, ghostface killah, most def, tribe called quest, raekwon, GZA, BunB etc

he has a lot of good ones. even ironman holds up. NYE '95 me and my boys went through a half ounce of blow with that going in the background. i still think sour soul is on another level than his other ones. that band is bad ass. their solo album is really good too.

That's the strange thing about rap..everyone knows "gangstas" are just volatile self destructive losers, yet ya got all these kids who never went through any of it critiquing who is more "real" than someone else..despite all of it being purely for entertainment in the first place

I mean really dude, who cares who is really "gangsta" or not. "My favorite rapper is better than your favorite rapper 'cuz he actually capped niggas and pushed dope"

He's been my fav for a few years now.

For me, it's because you can hear the fakeness in half of these fuckers. You can tell they've got no clue what they're talking about.

You can tell the difference between art and honesty in the complexity of the lyrics, which in the end makes a big difference in the level of entertainment.

Also I am neither a kid or someone who didn't push dope, so.. I like to hear things I can relate to. Big whoop.

it's entertainment. anyone who takes any of this stuff seriously is retarded. it's like watching goodfellas and trying to join the mob.

i like some of the edgier stuff, but like any type of rap music it's only good when it's well done.

like this is east coast, but all three of these dudes are NICE and the beat's ridic. kinda older but still.

guns-n-butter, reef da lost cauze and r.a. the rugged man - three greats

Yea I agree with you .but on the other hand it's not as retarded to like and relate. Like there's not even trap house around here. My city is run by motorcycle clubs, there is only crack house and dealers. But I can still relate to the whole concept . Even if these guys are in a sense losers, I understand them. I never pushed lots of dope because I had opportunities to do something else. but I got friends who does and are really stuck in there ,they are trapped. Makes me more respectful toward them ,it's not easy. I personally couldn't do it I could not sleep ok at night

God bless all the trap niggas :timeofneed:  (btw this song is not off DS2 and is really not pop lol but it's pretty recent tho. I love the vid too, lots of trippy stuff in futures videos)

Yeah, that track and a few others from 56 Nights are BANGERS, Thatkid don't know what he's missing

Completely agree with the rest of your post. I don't sell drugs or anything but I feel like the trap mentality extends pretty far outside of that culture. It's a really relatable attitude.

Malcolm, you have almost identical taste in rap to my roommate. I fuck with most of those guys except Logic, Joey in particular is crazy talented. I saw him live this time last year and I got to chill with him for a lil bit after the show, was sweet  I tend to gravitate toward mid-90s rap myself but I got love for many eras and regions of hip hop

You said you didn't like Honest, Monster, 56 Nights etc correct? This is what I meant you were missing, tons of classic Future tracks on those albums that you said you didn't like

I think that track might be a bonus track on DS2 but it was on 56 Nights first

Trap is a subgenre of electronic music. It is also a subgenre of hardcore hip hop.

Examples of electro-trap are Zeds Dead, Loudpvck, Bassnectar, DJ Snake.

Here is an excellent example of a electro trap song

Zeds Dead x Loudpvck

Some examples of Hip Hop trap are Chief Keef, Juicy J, Fredo Santana

This "Electro-Trap" they speak of is pretty much a bunch of dubstep-kids attempting to steal a culture they don't understand. Real Trap is a subgenre of Dirty South Hip Hop primarily coming out of Atlanta.

i am not up to date on the newer rap.  i like artists suck as tech n9ne, pastor troy, nappy roots, some old no limit music, scarface, and 2pac of course.  there is a lot of good rap out there but i think most of it is older.  besides i only like rap when i am a certain mood.

Bassnectar is mostly bass music and dubstep/brostep but he has a lot of trap elements as well. Skrillex is both as well. His Jack U material which he does with Diplo is pure trap while his solo releases are all dubstep. Diplo is also a good example of electro-trap

Neither are anything close to Trap. That's just, like, bass music.

Chief Keef's from Chicago. That's Drill not Dirty South. Drill is heavily based on the Trap feel, but is more focused on Chicago gangland shit than trappin'. Chevy Woods is from Pittsburgh.

janky tits your examples suck  , There is some edm trap legit but now the style is wide as fck , you can see trap , mombathon and big room and dubstep all mix together in one song

but there is some more legit trap rooted edm trap but even there. in the end the only thing that really ties these 2 styles together is the 808 kick/sub and the snares and hihats

That track with Kendrick was nice for sure. I will have to try and find a download again today, didn't have much luck yesterday

Not fuckin with that dubstep track you shared that much but it's better than your average brostep song or whatever (is that genre still big? I think most edm kids have moved onto "bass music" or whatever). I love Burial, but that's about as deep as my appreciation for dubstep goes. It's an interesting concept for sure, dark, dubbed out garage sounds like it would be great but for some reason none of it meshes with me. I just hate a lot of the textures many producers use.

Oddly I'm now in a dubstep mood. Will have to find a good mix to listen to

i'm not really into burial. it's not that i think it's bad music or anything. it's just not my thing, personally.

you may like what n-type plays. really futuristic, groovy stuff. the mix with walsh is good even though there's one very short part where they completely lose me.

i listen to most of my stuff on spotify and then just buy what i like. i stopped torrenting over a year ago. just too much of a hassle and it costs you money eventually anyway with having to buy and set up a seedbox. i'd rather arists just get my money. premium for spotify has pretty decent audio quality and you can stream it over ps3/4. if tidal is better i'll make the switch. i really like having access to an enormous catalog of music i can explore. the game's album is up on spotify by the way.

by the way, back to rap music. does anyone know of any good bay area rap music websites? i've always loved that style of rap but just can't find enough of it anywhere.
