Is this jar look healthy engouh for G2G? Why/Why not/
    #22376652 - 10/14/15 12:29 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

My main question is if I should use this jar to do G2G so that you don't have to read all, and just give me your opinion as to why or why not. However, the info is about how similar looking jars gave me absolutely amazing results. Thanks!

In the past, I've had countless issues with bacteria and mold. This jar looks very similar to the last dozen jars I used, which I thought were bacteria ridden (due to the little uncolonized spots on the grain on the glass).

However, when I spawned these previous jars a month ago to coir/verm/gypsum (45/45/10%) they colonized even faster than I can remember and in 8 days the subs were very firm from the myc to the point where I could've probably picked up the sub with one hand on the end and it wouldn't crumble in the least. Usually, I would wait 2 weeks and they would still most likely break at some point when I moved them from the tub to the GH. Probably bacteria weakening the myc. at this time of my grows.

All  7 subs in my GH had GREAT flushes (2.5 oz) per sub, and the fruits were bigger than I had ever seen for a first flush. I normally get 2 oz per tub, but the fruits are about 2" tall and .5" in diameter.

So, despite the fact that the jar looked iffy with the tiny tiny uncolonized spots against the glass, combined with the initial smell when I opened the jar BEFORE I broke up the myc, smelled earthy, but NOT like that normal mushroomy smell, I hope someone knows this specific earthy smell and if it's a bad or good thing.

I don't want to waste my 30 something jars on a bad G2G, but I could really use the speed of a G2G. I have a lot of agar that I use to start my jars, but I swear it takes at least 2 weeks even when I chop up the agar before placing the jars.

To Use or NOT to Use?

Hey, thanks for the reply, Chronic. I trust your judgement.

I would like to ask what is the deal with the little spots on the grains?
They used to not be there and mycelium would encompass the entire grain all over the jar, which I thought meant it was healthier without bacteria.

Maybe I'm thinking of when the grain has a little water ring around it and there's a non colonized spot pressed against the glass.

I'm off to G2G about 30 jars.

Listen to Cronicr...he is the man:bow2:
Good vibes and :goodluck:
G2G is the best way to expand your spawn...just my opinion.
I just turned 3 jars into 24...and had some left over for an experiment. The great part is they usually colonize in about a week.

For sure, buddy. I've done G2G about 3 or 4 times and most jars are 100% in 6 days. I'm much more excited now that I feel confident in the 3 jars I have to do G2G with. And these jars are all from a Burma agar strain that I transferred a few times.

If you'll notice those decent sized mushies up above, I don't know what it is exactly that caused them to be SO much bigger on the first flush than ANYTHING I've ever grown. Most of the time they're very small, despite the fact that I still typically get 2 oz per sub.

Those biggin's were an Amazonian strain I've had on multiple agar plates for over 3 months, so maybe that's what it is. It's all from a clone originally.

Most of the Amazonians I've grown were from Multispore, but it did seem that they were always quite a bit bigger than other varieties I've grown. People will tell you a cube is a cube (with certain exceptions like PE),
But...in my own personal experience the Amazonians started out big (first Flush in a Mini-Mono) and got HUGE by the second Flush. Of course without a clone or isolate...Multispore is always a crap shoot.

Initially I started with MS, but after so many failed attempts, accepted agar and started to isolate the strain. For over a year, the Amazonian were relatively small their first flush. Then, up until a week ago, all 7 of my subs (from agar initially) fruited massively (see in signature). All of the subs in my signature are from 1 week ago and are on their 1st flush. I'll be sure and take pics of subsequent flushes.

I've been doing the dunk n' roll technique with my un-pasteurized vermiculite and 3/7 went moldy PQL
