Official? 2015-2016 PNW Edibles
    #22376086 - 10/13/15 10:05 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys!  I couldn't find a PNW edibles thread for this year, so I thought I'd just make one.

The wife and I went out to larch mountain today and filled up on chanterelles real quick, so we decided to drive up to the top and watch the sun set.  Of course, it's hard to just sit and watch so I went for a walk in the spruce and mountain hemlock.  Lucky me I think I stumbled across a huge patch of Gypsies for the first time.

Absolutely do!  I'll get a picture of these chants when I lay them out.  Too bad the macro button broke on the way to the woods, there were some gorgeous mushrooms out there.

And here I was feeling high and mighty about my one shopping bag full

I've been having a hell of a time finding any cauliflowers down here for the past few years.  I always find them way too late.

Still, $200 is more than I make in a day.  I'd love to get paid to hunt mushrooms all day.

I have not been feeling well, but made my way out. Where I am at, Chants are popping about, unfortunately many babies are stomped and others were yanked. D-bag syndrome seems to be going around this year.

It's all about mapping out terrain and finding a few good honey holes.  South facing, slight slope, moss on ground under hemlock and doug fir that are mid age.  I have seen a golden carpet of chants as far as the eye goes up on larch mountain.

I hate how often my friends flake on me.  Luckily I'm the one with a truck now, so if they aren't ready I just go.  7:00 am means 7:00 am.  I do not do portland standard time (time stated + 2 1/2 hours)

Oh well, crush it today on the actives!

Tis the season to pack the dehydrator, and for soup!  I pretty much live off of mushroom soup this time of year.  The wife whipped up an amazing Hungarian chanterelle soup for us while I sliced and dried gypsies.

i found the most freakishly big chanterelle today. it is bigger than my head, and there was a salamander living in the cup like spot on it. it was badass. i really need to start bringing a camera with me.
