the presidential debates
    #22375189 - 10/13/15 07:15 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

I'm spending some time with my brother, who wanted to turn on the Democratic presidential debate.  So it's on.

Does anyone think any of these people can actually change anything?  I mean, they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.  I think that phrase is apt.

Is this really anything more than a dog and pony show for 2015 Americans?

There are only two parties to create the illusion of choice, while excluding any independent from ever having a chance.

I would definitely agree that, in principle, the choice a system of -- count them -- two parties affords would necessarily be an illusion.  And in practice it's a fact.

I've been following this Bernie Sanders guy you have. Even if you disagree with some of what he plans to implement, this guy is the only person that isn't guilty and shady as fuck and the only one who won't continue to destroy your country's standards from the inside out for the sake of the rich.

I saw Hillary Clinton briefly on Ellen Degenres. What a guilt-ridden little whore!

In my opinion:
There is a difference of opinion on things like abortion, between the parties -
but big money, corporations, the military industrial complex, including the military itself, arms manufacturers, the CIA, NSA, US School of the Americas (SOA)(the part of the US government in charge of torture ) etc, probably pull most of the strings no matter who is 'in power'. Also over 90%  of politicians are  corrupt and owe each other all kinds of favors and are desperate to get reelected.
So this country will continue to go down hill, with the rest of the world, regardless of the political show, and regardless of the media.
It is what happens to Empires.

why downhill?

just my personal opinion after a lot of research
assuming most posters live in the US and can afford a computer
it seems to me this is not much different from
living in a gated community compared to the rest of humanity

for example

a high percentage of the world's population lives in cities
by 2050 most will
much of such environments is toxic, the air even shortening lives in the bigger ones.

then there are the war, environmental, governmental, economic and health statistics, etc. Also the historical and anthropological records. And of course the elephant in the room no one wants to talk about: human's inability to control their birth rate post hunter gatherer.
if one really wants to know
the information is at one's finger tips
but not in the news

but, seems to me, we are like the frog in the pot of water
that is being so gradually heated...

but you will have no trouble finding optimists who
are certain they are right

Well, you make a valid point about his apparent lack of corruptness.  However, like him or not, he is unelectable.  He alienates far too many people politically -- including and perhaps especially in the Democratic establishment -- to have any real viability for a ticket.  In other words, he will never make it onto the ballot.  The only way he can do that is to drop out and run as an independent.  Which may happen.  I think it would be even much more likely to see Joe Biden on the ticket than Bernie.  And if Bernie and Hillary are tied when the convention happens, each without enough votes for the nomination, maybe then Biden will step in and screw both of them.  It's possible.

Not that I am going to vote.

Do you really think so? There's been a lot of media distortion following Bernie Sanders/Hilary Clinton. After the debates aired, CNN announced that Hilary won obv, but if you look towards other news sources (online, social media, twitter, voice of the people and all that bullcrap) people overwhelmingly support Bernie Sanders. What people don't realize is that CNN is one of Hilary's largest contributors. They've invested in her. It's in their best interest that she win. It's amazing how the press is waving off Sanders, but it's only because he is a threat.

Bernie's starting to pull in a lot more of the conservative vote, because his main goals are uniting the average person against the tyranny of the 1%. So he's becoming more attractive to all voters as polling day draws near.. he's the only one looking out for us.

Doesn't really matter who leads when the road has already been paved and those who step off-road don't get the opportunity to lead.

Majority rule doesn't work in mental institutions, somewhere along the line our forefathers figured this out.

Society is governed by public opinion, and public opinion governed by mass media.

--------------------
In an entheogen influenced moment of clarity I came to understand that reality manifests as a dream from the collective subconscious minds of all conscious entities. Nothingness made something because we collectively believe it into being, and physical laws given power by the reinforcement of conscious observation. Creation, destruction, and even time itself are but an aspect of ourselves and we of them. Life and death, simply illusions we face from a limited grasp of our own existence. We are one, all is eternal.

Unfortunately, the 2 parties have become 'Dumb and Dumber,' with the Republicans being the latter IMO. Not since Eisenhower has there been a decent upstanding Republican president. To me, they represent the party of the 1% and are warmongering. Conservatism is about maintaining the status quo, but many of the GOP want to maintain the status quo of 5 or 6 decades ago, when women, for example, died from filthy 'back-alley' abortions because the government legislated what women could do with their bodies. Unregulated industry serves only the corporate billionaires, while wasting the earth's remaining resources for their pleasure, and pollution of the Earth, water and air are denied as being real. Democrats still tend to be the party of the average American, but congress has been co-opted by the GOP. The middle class has suffered and continues to shrink. Economists tell us that the burgeoning middle class following WW II until about the time Reagan and his 'Reaganomics' began, was a fluke in the history of world economies. America is headed towards a rule by wealthy oligarchs, a new aristocracy where the 1% lords over the increasingly diminishing middle class until we are back to a feudal society of wealthy lords controlling the military to manage the impoverished multitudes of serfs and peasants. Not until the military stops siding with the 1% will this trend continue. One harkens back to the French Revolution when the military supported the people and their 1% were sent to the guillotine. Come the revolution...

I think we're on a fast track to become a third world nation.  Take all our investments into the military and dump them into education is my best bet for the future.  Doubt it will happen though.

Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

Yup.  Well said.  (I lol'd at your 'dumb and dumber' comment).

Yes.  We are on that fast track.  Empire has grown ripe and is starting to rot.  I'd say dump some into health care, too.
