New Idea: Hot-Water Bath for Cacti Tea
    #22373318 - 10/13/15 01:14 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

I just had a great idea yesturday.

Yesturday, i was thinking about how cacti tea is made by boiling a pot on the stove. Then it hit me.

What if you put your cacti pieces in a large glass jar, filled with a couple cups of water, then sealed the jar and put the jar in a hot water bath?

Advantages

Water is not loss from boiling/simmering (no need to add water)
You can determine how much water you want to drink in the beginning
You can make individual doses inside each jar!
Pot does not have to be cleaned
No stinky cactus smell in kitchen!

Disadvantages

Tea does not get as hot in jar
More things to clean
Possibly more cooking time (because of lower heating temperature)
Possibility of breaking jar from too high of heat
Requires a quart jar or larger

In case u dont know what a hot water bath is, its when you have a pot of hot water heated just before boiling, and you put a sealed jar inside the pot of hot water. The hot water heats up the whole jar (keep the top of jar above water line).

The main reason for this is it contains everything. The cactus smell, the water in the jar. All self-contained.

What do you guys think?

It sounds like you're sacrificing efficacy for convenience. I haven't seen any solid data on mescaline destruction from the heat in the boiling process. Everyone rightly suspects there is some but until someone can show me that any significant amount is destroyed, no need to reinvent the wheel.

Edit: That being said, I applaud your effort to create new methods of consuming cactus. It seems there's at least a half dozen different 'teks' for consuming other ethneogens, but it doesn't seem like there's as much inventiveness going on with mescaline extraction.

This reminds me of a method used to preserve home made jams etc.

I think this tek has no real advantages and is not going to work.

However, since you invented this, feel free to try and document it.
Then post here with conclusions. I will definitely follow up!
