Habitat: growing on a dead and damp rotting tree in clusters Location: UK, West Midlands Gills: Not merging with the stem, attached Stem: Hollow No Bruising Scent: Strong mushroomey, distinctly fruity, sweet Taste: slightly bitter, Spore Print: Rusty Orange Cap: Smooth, Dry, varying from creamy yellow, bright yellow, rusty orange I suspect these may be some kind of gymnopilus, the photos I have aren't great but I can probably get some better ones soon

This isn't my picture, but they looked like these

I don't think those are Gyms. It is difficult to see the details in your photos, but I would compare to the genus Hypholoma.

A quick tip for all hunters (that some may argue with): It is far better to use the motto "cleanliness is next to shroominess." (Keep them away from dirty areas, carpet, the floor, etc). The higher you hold them in esteem, the more they will give to you ime.

I don't think, so my spore print was rusty orange, the species on the link is dark brown, also the mushrooms I have are much brighter yellow/orange than those

OP here, so I just did a spore print and its rusty orange, also I eat a tiny piece of mushroom to see what would happen, I felt weird and had a laughing fit for a few minutes what do you think?

Sounds to me like you had an extreme placebo effect, and can't accept the fact that you don't have gyms....

Don't eat those for your own sake. As for laughter, mushrooms are fun so I'd expect anyone to be of good cheer.
However:
True, active Gymnopilus species (laughing gyms) have lasting, powerfully obvious effects for several hours (6-10h approximately).
Toss 'em, man.

The print is a light chocolate brown. = hypholoma man.
